A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

1. Maxwell was a fantastic pageboy at my Sisters Wedding
2. Maxwell's speech continues to improve
3. Maxwell is developing every day
4. Maxwell has had a brilliant start to the holidays
5. Maxwell is ready to go back to preschool

A week ago, Maxwell, Ben and I attended my sisters wedding. We had a amazing day and it is a day we will all remember for the rest of our lives. The venue was simply beautiful, my sister looked amazing and the day ran smoothly! To start off with, we were very worried about how Maxwell would deal with the wedding but after a lot of explaining and telling him stories via happy land, Maxwell behaved well at the wedding and more importantly he really enjoyed himself. It was a lovely day and it saw Maxwell walk in front of around 50 people at a packed out church. We are super proud of him and are amazed at how well he behaved.

Maxwell's speech has continued to develop well. Maxwell is now able to say 3 words together and it is easier for me to understand what he is saying - other's still find it hard. Maxwell now enjoys speaking to my mum on the phone - he speaks a few words to her. We are looking forward to Maxwell starting his special school in September and can not wait to see the progress he makes.

Maxwell's development is coming on well. Looking at how Maxwell was 4 month's ago, it is amazing to see how well he is progressing. He is now able to use a fork and spoon to eat his dinner which he was unable to and keeps giving potty training a go. He also has tried the odd new food and his imaginative play is getting there. What he lack's in some areas, he does very well in other areas. We are very proud of him as a family.

Maxwell has had a lovely start to the holidays. Maxwell has had a fun filled holiday already which has seen him attend a wedding, spend time with my parents, go on days out, go out for meals and more importantly do crafts, play in the garden and go to the park. His favourite day out so far was when we went to the beach. Maxwell loved the beach, he loved playing near the sea and he enjoyed having fun in the sand!

Maxwell is ready to go back to preschool however he does need some new shoes. I started off early this year and week by week, I have been picking up Maxwell small bits to go back to preschool. I have found a lot of items in the sale which included a beautiful coat which was reduced form £25 down to £8 and some gloves for the winter from £3 down to 25p! I love bargains and I always manage to find a lot of winter clothing bargains in the summer. The most expensive thing which we found to have purchased so far was Maxwell's new preschool jumper/tshirt. It cost us a whopping £20!

This Journey Will End With A Happy Ending...

This post has been a post that I have wanted to write for the last few months however I have been unable to find the correct words to explain my thoughts and even my feelings on the topic that I want to speak about. I feel that we have been through a tough time, a time which has been stressful. I wanted to write this post to make other parents aware, to let them know they are not the only one's going through what they are going through and they are not alone. There is light at the end of the tunnel, even if the tunnel is a long one.

-------------------------------------------------------

Over a year and a half ago I went to the doctors with Maxwell and Ben and we spoke about how we felt Maxwell's speech was not developing correctly for his age. We were shunned into believing it was somehow our fault and Maxwell's speech was due to the fact he had little interaction with other children. I went away from that doctors appointment crying, feeling like a failure of a parent.

As a parent I wanted the best start for Maxwell and I was ready to help Maxwell in any way I possibly could. After our little chat with the doctor, Ben and I put Maxwell into preschool for 2 mornings a week. We believed this would help his social skills and bring his speech on that was so limited. We could barely afford to pay for his 2 mornings a week at preschool however we were happy to go without luxuries for a few months so we could try and give Maxwell the best possible start in life.

After a few months of  Maxwell being at preschool, they expressed their concerns about Maxwell and notified me that they believed that he may have a developmental issue. This was not due to just his speech but they way he acted around other children, the fact he hated certain textures, being a fussy eater, his repetitive behavior and the way he behaved socially.

Due to this we were referred to see a pediatrician. We attended the appointment where we spent over a hour talking about our concerns. We spoke about what we felt Maxwell needed to improve on but more importantly what we felt his strengths were. We came away from the appointment feeling a little deflated, the word autism was used however the pediatrician felt it was too soon to diagnose Maxwell with anything and asked us to see him in 6 months.

Since then, we have had support but limited support and we are still no closer to finding out if Maxwell has Autism. We have had letters pointing out that Maxwell is much slower at developing than other children his age, letters that have been hard to read. We have had to fill forms in - hard forms where the negatives take over the positives. Forms that I never imagined I would need to fill in.

We have had speech appointments, health visitor appointments and more importantly Maxwell has been referred to a few different programs. Programs that have limited spaces, due to limited funding. Programs that could help make a child progress, programs that would benefit a child early on in their life.

Fast forward to now and I feel like a lucky parent, a weight has been finally lifted. Support has been put in place, support that I so desperately wanted and felt my son needed and deserved. We have a little light at the tunnel, however this light is not at the end of the tunnel. As a parent I feel we are starting a chapter, a important chapter where we will find more out about Maxwell.

Maxwell's current preschool have helped Maxwell. They have catered for his want's and needs. They have started to speak to him in Makaton, have created picture cards for him to use and have spent time doing 1 on 1 activities with him and allowing him to do language groups, however recently we were given the opportunity to try and get Maxwell a place at a new preschool. It is not a full time place, however it is a place where he will visit 2 mornings a week and the place will benefit him on a large scale.

Last week we were asked to attend a welcome morning at the new preschool for Maxwell. The preschool is a regular preschool, however it helps children with different needs. At the new preschool they have speech therapists that are there every day, they help children in smaller groups than what Maxwell's preschool currently offer and they create a different learning environment for Maxwell to learn in . They help children with speech problems like Maxwell and they also offer help to children that may have any additional needs.

We were excited to attend the welcome morning. I felt slightly sick but excited about attending. I had so many hopes pinned onto Maxwell getting a place, a place I felt my son needed and deserved.

It was a stressful time leading up to the welcome morning, we were on edge wondering if we would be able to get Maxwell a place as the places were very limited. Only a handful of children would get a place, what if there were children out there in a worse situation than Maxwell? What if there were other children with greater needs than Maxwell?

Before we went to the welcome morning we were asked to fill in a questionnaire and one of the questions that were asked of us was why we felt Maxwell deserved a place at the preschool? It took me a week to answer that question, to find the correct words to write on a piece of paper about my son, not because it was a hard question but because I simply needed to find the right words to describe what a special, magical little boy I had.

We went to the welcome morning. we let people observe Maxwell, we let people get there clipboards out and write things down about our son. We did not know what they were writing, what their initial   thoughts were about Maxwell.

We allowed Maxwell to have fun, we allowed Maxwell to be himself. We allowed Maxwell to play freely, we allowed Maxwell to sing freely, we laughed with him. As a parent I felt lucky. I felt lucky that although Maxwell was different to other children his age, he was still Maxwell. He was alive, he was breathing and anything that the world had to throw at us, we were ready to take on. As a parent I was there, happy to help him overcome anything he needed to overcome.

We waited 4 days for a phone call off the new preschool, hours after hours we waited wondering if we had managed to secure our child a place at something which we felt would benefit him. Hours of biting nails, hours of tears rolling down cheeks, hours of feeling scared, panicked, worried. Hours of wondering if we had done enough.

All the emotions I felt, all the words written on paper, all the prayers in my head counted for something as last week we found out we managed to secure Maxwell a place at the new preschool.

All our hopes and prayers were answered. A small stress was taken away. My son had managed to secure a place at the new preschool, a place where I knew that he would blossom, a place where I know he would be cared for, a place where he would have fun.

Maxwell has already started to blossom in the last few weeks. I can not wait to see what the next few months bring us. Things he was unable to do 3 months ago he is able to do now, things we thought he would not do for a long time, he is able to do. I have every little bit of faith that my son will continue to develop into something special.

We are ready for any diagnoses, we are ready if there is not a diagnoses. We will accept Maxwell for who he is. My son is my son. I will always love him unconditionally.

-------------------------------------------------------

We are at the start of a journey, this journey will have a end.
This journey will end with a happy ending.

A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

  1. Maxwell has learnt to "Hi5".
  2. Maxwell enjoys watching Peppa Pig on Youtube but in French.
  3. Maxwell is extremely helpful in the new house.
  4. Maxwell has "deep" feet.
  5. Maxwell has enjoyed doing crafts this week.
This week has seen Maxwell learn to Hi5. I am not sure where he really learnt it from however every single time I say Hi5 Maxwell puts his hand out to Hi5 and screams with excitement. Maxwell has now started to put his hand out to people when we are out and about so they can Hi5 him and he loves to do it to his Daddy in the evening when he gets out of bed.

I have always let Maxwell watch Youtube on my phone from a young age. Maxwell has enjoyed many nursery rhymes, childrens programmes and even educational games however this week Maxwell has enjoyed watching Peppa Pig in French. Every afternoon I let Maxwell use my phone for a hour and all this week he has put Peppa on in French. I am pretty sure he is unable to understand her at all and I have told him numerous amounts of times that he needs the English version on however if anyone dares changes it Maxwell gets incredibly stropy. Hopefully he will grow out of watching it soon.

Since Maxwell was young, he has always been helpful around the house however since we have been in our new house Maxwell has started to help a little more. Maxwell now enjoys helping to sweep the lounge as well as mopping, putting his toys away in the conservatory and helping me peg all the washing out on the washing line. I hope Maxwell continues to be clean and helpful as he grows older.

This week saw us visit our local shoe shop to get Maxwell's feet measured as it seems he has been in his latest pair of shoes for months. Whilst there we were told although Maxwell had not gone up any shoe sizes, he had deep feet. I was unaware of children getting deep feet however all it means for Maxwell is that he has arched tops on his feet and they are more cushioned than some childrens feet. We were advised to keep a eye on his feet and always be aware of the styles of shoes we are buying him as some may not be suitable for him and may lead him to discomfort as the top of his feet may feel squashed.

Since moving into our new house, we have had a lot more room to do activities. This week has seen us make lots of models out of playdough and has seen us do lots of colouring and drawing. Maxwell loves to get creative and I like Maxwell to get creative, as long as there is not to much mess. I have now bought a plastic play mat to put down so whatever activity Maxwell is doing the floor will stay clean.

A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

  1. Maxwell celebrated World Book Day 2014
  2. Maxwell has started to say more words
  3. Maxwell is a lot more affectionate
  4. Maxwell has been a little mischievous
  5. Maxwell is being very helpful
Maxwell had great fun celebrating World Book Day and decided to dress up as Funny Bones. Not only is this a favourite book of Maxwell's it was also a favourite book of mine as a child. Maxwell really enjoyed his day and we spent lots of time reading books together.

This week Maxwell has managed to say a few more words. New words include Peppa, Penguin, Onsie and Spider. Maxwell likes learning by seeing things so with the help of a new game which we bought him and pointing to characters that he sees he is able to learn new words. This week we purchased him some new games for his Easter present so he can maybe pick up a few more words.

Maxwell has been a lot more affectionate recently. Maxwell understands to kiss you if you ask for a kiss and he understands to hug you if you ask for a hug.  Maxwell also loves to blow kisses and loves to surprise you with a hug and a kiss.

After the crayon incident a few weeks ago, Maxwell has continued to be a little mischievous. From trying to rip curtains down from hiding food up his sleeves at dinner and throwing it in the bin, he seems to have had a little naughty side to him. Saying this Maxwell is a good boy the majority of time and after he is told no he understands.

Maxwell has continued to be helpful around the home and this week has seen him brushing the floor, throwing rubbish in the bin, tidying his room and cleaning up a spill from his drink. Although I am present when he is cleaning and being helpful Maxwell is very independent and enjoys going to get a wet wipe at his own accord and cleaning things up.

A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

  1. Maxwell has stopped having naps in the day
  2. Maxwell went out for lunch
  3. Maxwell is saying more words
  4. Maxwell is learning ride around on his balance bike
  5. Maxwell has been very giggly
Maxwell has recently stopped having naps. He used to have a 1 hour nap a day however he has cut the naps and now goes to bed a little earlier at night. I have noticed this has improved his sleep and we manage to pack more fun into our day.

Maxwell went out for lunch this week. We had a lovely time and Maxwell enjoyed himself. Maxwell adores going out and always enjoys his food. He also loves nosing around the restaurant to see what others are up to and he likes to get peoples attention to try and talk to them.

Maxwell is slowly still trying to say more words. It is still frustrating that he knows what we are saying yet is still finding it hard to communicate with us. He now is at the stage where he likes to point to things to let us know what he wants or holds our hands and takes us to a room to show us what he wants.

Maxwell was recently sent a balance bike (review coming soon). Maxwell has really been enjoying himself on it and has been going round in the house on it whilst he gets his balance a bit better. Me and Ben are looking to buy him a helmet over the next few weeks so we maybe able to take him to the park and let him have a ride on it. Maxwell really enjoys going on it.

Maxwell has been very giggly over the last few weeks. He is always breaking out in a fit of laughter at the most simplest things whether it be on the TV, something he is doing or something else is doing.

A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

1 - Maxwell enjoys jumping.
2 - Maxwell likes playing skittles.
3 - Maxwell likes posing for photos.
4 - Maxwell's speech is slowly improving.
5 - Maxwell has started to enjoy playing independently.

Maxwell has started to enjoy jumping around the house. Every time he gets a little excited you see him jump up and down or run around the house whilst jumping. This week saw Maxwell get a Happy Hopper which he has enjoyed hopping around his room on. In the summer months it will be nice to see Maxwell jumping around the garden.

Maxwell has found a new game to play. He adores making skittles out of Megabloks, he builds a long line and then stands them up. He then aims his soft ball which he has to play in the house with and aims the ball and hits all the "skittles" over. He then goes and stands the "skittles" up and hits them down again. This has created hours of fun and enjoyment.

Maxwell has become more aware of me taking photos of him and has started to pose for photos. Some days he does not want his photo taken so he runs away and hides, or hides behind his hands. This to me shows how independent Maxwell is becoming as he now has choices.

Maxwell's speech is something which I have been concerned about. Maxwell can point to things such as his facial features and is well aware of number counting however Maxwell refuses to speak. Maxwell can say a handful of words and knows there meaning, but it is frustrating to see him not stringing sentences together.

Maxwell has started to play independently which has been nice to see. He used to want to sit with me and be cuddled or played with all day however this has now changed and Maxwell enjoys playing with his toys on his own and can keep himself amused for a good 20 mins at a time. This has allowed me to get on with household jobs however it is still nice to see that sometimes he still wants that cuddle and still enjoys Mummy playing with him in the afternoon.

A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

I have not wrote one of these posts in what seems ages. Since I last wrote on here about Maxwell's development, he really has bloomed into a amazing little boy. Maxwell continues to amaze me with everything he manages to take in daily.

1 - Maxwell understands where his feet are.
2 - Maxwell continues to help around the house.
3 - Maxwell has celebrated his 2nd Birthday.
4 - Maxwell has learnt to ride around on a ride on.
5 - Maxwell has learnt how to jump.

Recently Maxwell has started to understand things that you say to him. Maxwell seems to learn things by watching. This week Maxwell has learnt where his feet are and where his nose is. If you ask Maxwell where his shoes are he can reply that they are gone if they are not on his feet, if you ask him to go and get his shoes, he will fetch them. I love that he is starting to understand things and I hope he starts talking a little more soon.

Maxwell has been really helpful around the house. He now understands he must put the toys he is playing with back in his toy box before he starts playing with other toys. Maxwell continues to put rubbish in the bin and he likes to make sure his hands are always clean. If they are dirty he will get a wet wipe to clean them.

Maxwell celebrated his 2nd Birthday. It seems so strange how fast he is growing. He is no longer my baby which I can cradle. He is now a independent toddler which loves learning, being cheeky and adores playing and seeing his family.

At Christmas we bought Maxwell a Mega Blok ride on. Maxwell has come on leaps and bounds with it and now can ride around the house on it independently. His ride on has a small tray where he likes to store his most precious belongings such as his books and his Innotab.  It has been fun watching him learn how to ride around.

After watching a few TV programmes and seeing other children jumping in real life, Maxwell loves to jump around. Last week saw me buy Maxwell a Happy Hopper so he could really start to enjoy bouncing and jumping around.

A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

  1. Maxwell has learnt his first words
  2. Maxwell enjoyed going to a party
  3. Maxwell has been spoilt
  4. Maxwell is excited to be moving
  5. Maxwell is eating a wider range of foods
Yesterday  Maxwell started to say his first words. I have been a little worried that Maxwell manages to speak all day in baby talk yet has not grasped the fact of learning new words and not being able to communicate with me. Yesterday was such a proud day.  I was shocked that when I said "o no" to Maxwell he managed to say it back. I can not wait for him to learn more words and communicate with me more.

Maxwell went to Grandads birthday this weekend. We ate lots of food and Maxwell enjoyed running around and burning off lots of energy as well as eating lots of peas and chocolate birthday cake (not together). We had a great day and it was lovely to see my parents as we have not seen them for a while.

Maxwell has been extremely spoilt over the last week. From bedroom stuff, to new toys and clothes Maxwell has been bought a lot. One of the biggest things we have spent money on is getting Maxwell new things for his new bedroom. I have bought, bedding, curtains, accessories and even a new book shelf which is of course all Disney Cars. I can not wait to move and see the outcome of all mine and Ben's hard work.

Maxwell is excited to be moving. He has helped us pack lots of stuff away as well as help choose things in shops to buy for our new house. We are both excited for summer to come round so we can spend time in our garden, have fun and create lots of memories.

I have recently talked about Maxwell not eating many foods however this week we have had a lot of progress with Maxwell's eating. Maxwell has become confident eating puddings such as yoghurt and mousse by himself. Maxwell does struggle to scrape the bottom of the pot however it is fabulous to see how quickly he is developing.

A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

  1. Maxwell has learnt to carry shopping bags and pack the contents away
  2. Maxwell has been preparing for the winter
  3. Maxwell has been building
  4. Maxwell is obsessed with eyes and ears
  5. Maxwell has a great aim
Maxwell is always extremely helpful however this week he has learnt a new helpful skill. Every week I get or food shopping delivered, simply because it is difficult to reach the supermarket as Ben works long hours and also I find that I tend to spend less than I would if I went shopping in a supermarket.
Normally Ben is in bed when the food shopping comes so it is left for Maxwell and I to bring the shopping up the stairs and pack it away however this week Maxwell decided he would carry all the bags from the landing into the kitchen and then help put the shopping away.

Maxwell is preparing for the winter. This week we took him shopping and got him some new bits to keep him warm. We settled on getting him some new dungarees, a jumper and some funky long sleeved t shirts. I already managed to buy him his winter coat and some other bits in the last 2 months, so we do not have much left to get.

Maxwell has really come on leaps on bounds with learning how to build his Megabloks. Only a few months ago he struggled to make a tower with the blocks however Maxwell is now able to make large towers as well as creative shapes.

Maxwell is obsessed with eyes and ears. He loves to touch and feel them and loves to flick his Daddy's ears and poke me in my eyes. Maxwell has been learning so much recently.

Maxwell loves playing with his ball recently. He has developed amazing aim and sometimes even throws the ball at you without looking. He has also stared to learn to kick it. I am really proud that he has picked up these skills so well, especially at his age.

A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

  1. Maxwell had a lovely day out at the farm
  2. Maxwell has a love for music
  3. Maxwell enjoys playing with water
  4. Maxwell likes to store things
  5. Maxwell had a surprise in the post
At the weekend we visited Finkley Down Farm, you are able to read my review here. Maxwell enjoyed the farm and it was lovely to see him run around and have a fantastic day out. Maxwell has a huge love of animals and I loved seeing how excited he got around them. I loved seeing him learn new things on the day and I can not wait to go on more family days out with him in the future.

Maxwell has had a love for music since he was born however over the last month, I have seen Maxwell develop a love for music even more. Maxwell enjoys to dance in front of the TV, sing along to his favourite songs and loves to play with his musical instruments. Me and Ben have a love for music so I hope that as Maxwell grows up he shares our love.

Maxwell is a water baby and loves to have baths. This week however I have let him have tubs of water to play with. He loves to splash the water everywhere including over himself and he also loves to put his hands under a running tap. We have fun adding bubbles into the water and Maxwell also loves to add glitter.

Maxwell  has a habit of storing things. We recently were sent a little green bin and since we were sent it Maxwell has used it to store his Playmobil people. He also enjoys storing his Megabloks and things which come off his toys. The bin is always put in a safe place and no one is allowed to move it.

Around a month ago I was lucky enough to win a Chupa Chups lolly wheel. We had waited and waited for it to come and it finally arrived yesterday. As you can see Maxwell is amazed by it however I think he is too young to be eating them and there is also a safety risk. Does any one have any ideas with what I can do with the wheel rather than me and Ben eating them all?

A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

  1. Maxwell has been de-cluttering this week
  2. Maxwell has been trying lots of new foods
  3. Maxwell has started to enjoy rocking on his rocking horse
  4. Maxwell has got a little bossy
  5. Maxwell went shopping
This week I have been de-cluttering the house. I have managed to get rid of a few large items which were space hogging as well as a few little items. I placed some on Ebay so now I will be able to get Maxwell some small treats with the money I made. Maxwell enjoyed helping me on the clean up and has learnt how to clean a floor with a wet wipe, put his plates away, put his toys in his toy box and puts all his bath toys away after his bath.

I have been trying to encourage Maxwell to eat new foods this week. With a little help from Kerry over at Ohsoamelia, Maxwell has tried waffles with strawberries, grapes and a few magic stars for breakfast, noodles for lunch and smoothies in the day. Maxwell enjoys fruit however he was a little wary of the waffles. I hope he grows to like them.

Last Christmas I bought Maxwell a rocking horse. For many months the rocking horse gathered a lot of dust as Maxwell was too small for it and couldn't grasp the fact he had to sit on it and rock on it but this week he showed a interest in it and has become a professional cowboy overnight. He has been playing on it every day this week and enjoys watching Cbeebies whilst on it.

Maxwell has got a little bossy recently. If I am doing something, he demands my attention and has even taken to pulling my hand away from what I am doing to give me something such as a book to read to him. If I do not meet his demands he can end up getting very cross. I hope it is something he will grow out of soon.

Maxwell was lucky enough to visit Gunwarf Quays this weekend and we managed to pick up many bargains for him. We got 2x Gap tops RRP at £10 each and we managed to get them for £2.20 each, 2 French Connection tops RRP at £20 each and we got 1 for £3 and the other for £6 and we also purchased some stickers for just 35p to go in his craft box. Maxwell enjoys shopping and I cant wait to go again soon to hunt some bargains down.

A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

  1. Maxwell loves grapes
  2. Maxwell has a lot more hair
  3. Maxwell has become a lot more independent
  4. Maxwell has found his and other peoples ears
  5. Maxwell went to his 1st car boot sale
Maxwell has developed a love of grapes. Over the last week he has eaten grapes every day and he hates to stop after eating them. Maxwell has always loved fruit however grapes have turned into his firm favourite.

Maxwell has always not had a lot of hair however over the last week, it has grown and grown and is much longer. When Maxwell was born he had a birthmark on the back of his head, however his hair has started to cover the mark which makes the back of his head look a lot better.

Maxwell has become a lot more independent.  He has been enjoying watching the TV on his own as well as playing with his toys more independently. He continues to be helpful around the house however he is still having his outbursts. I believe he is in his "terrible twos" a little early.

Maxwell has found his own ears as well as other peoples. He enjoys pulling my ears and playing with them. If someone is on TV and he is able to see their ears, he runs up to the TV and points at the persons ears. Its become a slight obsession but a funny one.

On Sunday the weather was beautiful so we decided to make our way to our local car boot sale! Maxwell really enjoyed his self and we let him choose some toys for himself (with a little help) at the big toy stalls. Maxwell choose a new electric toy guitar, a happy land space ship which came with the people, a small garage and a big Disney Lightning Mcqueen car. Whilst there we also found a rug for Maxwell's Disney car room. We had a fab day out!

A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

  1. Maxwell is making a lot more sounds
  2. Maxwell enjoys going for walks
  3. Maxwell has started having tantrums
  4. Maxwell gets more helpful everyday
  5. Maxwell is coping well with the hot weather.
Maxwell has been making a lot more sounds this week. He still is not able say words however he does try. He can say Mumma and Dadda but he now tries to say car often as well as the word NO! He has also become more giggly and a little more screechy!

Maxwell has finally found his feet and is enjoying walking around outside. He has been going up and down the road and is very good at holding hands. He does not run off and gets excited about brushing past trees and plants. Its lovely to see him enjoying the sun.

Maxwell has been having tantrums over the last week which are not nice. They are not everyday but they are over silly things, only yesterday did he have a tantrum over a cake which ended up in the bin. He gets put in his cot and is told it is wrong so I am hoping it is something he will grow out of soon. Until then I will have to grin and bare his outbursts.

Although the tantrums have been a pain Maxwell is still very helpful around the house. He gets smarter each day and shows a interest in helping out around the house. This week he has learnt to help get his breakfast ready each morning and throws his rubbish in the bin, however I am a little scared he keeps putting other things in the bin as things keep going missing.

This hot weather is not fun for anyone but Maxwell has coped well.  He has been drinking a lot of juice and has been chomping on lots of cold fruit and salad items. His favorite thing to eat is juicy cucumber. Maxwell enjoys going out for walks in the sun however he hates wearing a hat. It is hot in the house so Maxwell enjoys sitting and playing with toys.

Organix Video And Competition

Organix have launched an online video to help mums understand the role of finger foods in the weaning stages of a child’s development journey. The campaign, supported by research from a team of experts in child nutrition and development, aims to support mums with information and advice on this crucial stage. The ‘Learning to love food is as easy as ABC...’ video also informs parents about social skills, and how mealtimes can help babies’ development in this area.

“Many of us are aware of the nutritional benefits our babies get from eating a variety of foods, however it’s not as widely known that giving your baby foods of varied shapes and textures can help the growth of areas such as hand and eye coordination, chewing skills, mouth muscles, essential gripping skills, and speech development. Exposing a baby to a wide range of finger foods at a suitable early age can get them on their way to start practising everyday skills, such as using their pincer grip with their thumb and forefinger, an essential life skill to pick up small objects,” comments Dr Frankie Philips, a nutritionist specialising in child development.

Finger foods offer children a great way to explore food and the world around them as they can handle the food themselves, look at it, put it into their mouths to discover texture, taste and flavour, and to learn that their actions can have an effect. They are also an essential part of a baby’s diet, required to help learn the physical, emotional and social skills children need to feed themselves and to have a positive engagement with eating.

Child psychologist, Dr. Angharad Rudkin, says: “Parents tend to focus on their little one eating everything on their plate, or whether they’re walking or talking, leaving out an important area of development – social and emotional skills. Having a friendly interaction at mealtimes is just as important as getting them to eat all of their meal. The biggest thing parents want from their child is to be interested in what they eat and that they want to try new things. It’s this area of development that will come from enjoyable mealtimes enabling your baby to feel confident to try new tastes, shapes and textures.”

In line with the launch of the video, Organix has introduced two new finger foods to the baby food category - Strawberry Rice Cakes and Multi Grain Hearts with Strawberry. Suitable from seven months, Organic Strawberry Rice Cakes are carefully designed to encourage babies to develop more complex self-feeding skills and progress from grabbing with the palm of their hands, which is the first grip position a baby learns. The texture is firm to hold but gentle enough for a baby’s developing gums.

A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

First of all apologies for not giving a recent update on Maxwell's development. Ben has been having the weekends off and I have been snowed under since returning from Britmums however everything is back on track now, so expect regular updates. In the last few weeks Maxwell has developed a lot.
  1. Maxwell spent the 1st night away from me
  2. Maxwell has learnt to walk around in my shoes
  3. Maxwell is enjoying more foods
  4. Maxwell is an Official Tomy Reviewer
  5. Maxwell went to Monkey World
Last Friday night it was mine and Maxwell's first night apart since he was born. I was in London for Britmums and he was with Nanny and Grandad as well as with A.Rachel and U.Rob. I was pretty sad laying in my hotel room thinking about him but I knew he was safe and whilst I was away he had a lovely time. He got up to lots of things including a shopping trip, hung the washing out, playing a lot in the garden as well as building castles with his Grandad .

Maxwell has developed a love for my shoes. Since being home from London Maxwell has decided he must have a pair in the living room with him and he loves to slip them on and walk around them. He has mastered wearing them well and can surprisingly walk well in them. He just needs to learn how to turn around in them now.

As many of my regular readers know, Maxwell has not been into wet food. He likes food which he can eat by himself with his fingers and refuses anything wet and refuses to be fed by anyone however in the last few weeks Maxwell has been eating noodles, rice and cereal. He still refuses to let anyone feed him but I am happy he is eating new foods.

Maxwell is a Official Tomy Reviewer!! We were extremely surprised to be chosen for such a big thing! I am over the moon as well as Maxwell is. We are looking forward to bringing our readers top reviews and we are looking forward to putting the toys through there paces.

Maxwell was lucky enough to go to Monkey World this weekend. We had a great day out and we enjoyed ourselves. The weather was hot and Maxwell loved seeing the monkeys. I would say the park is a great place to take the children for a day out. There are a lot of things to see and do.

A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

  1. Maxwell likes to walk around in Mummy's shoes
  2. Maxwell has a new toy
  3. Maxwell went out for his first pub lunch
  4. Maxwell has had his first cold
  5. Maxwell has learnt to do handstands.
This week Maxwell has been busy trying to walk around in my shoes. He is not keen on his own shoes but when it comes to my shoes it is a different story. His favorite pair are the pair I have bought for Britmums. They are black and have gold decorating. He has always been a magpie and loves sparkly stuff so maybe this is why he loves them so much.

This week I bought Maxwell a new set of skittles. I found them in Tesco's and they were a complete bargain so I had to buy them. Recently Maxwell has had a interest in balls and has enjoyed throwing them around. Maxwell enjoyed playing with the skittles for a while but then decided it was more fun to throw them at Mummy and Daddy. For now they have been confiscated.

Maxwell went out for his first lunch this week. We went to a pub in the New Forest and Maxwell had a great time. He ate fish fingers, chips, peas and Mummy's salad and he was as good as gold. Everyone in the pub kept saying how well behaved he was and they were surprised when he cleared the whole of his plate.

Maxwell and I have not been very well this week. I have had a sinus infection and Maxwell managed to get a cold. He dealt with it very well and although he was sleepy he still managed to eat well. He has a sore nose now and looks a little like Rudolph the reindeer.
Maxwell has been doing handstands around the lounge this week. He bends over and looks between his legs and tries to throw his legs in the air. He normally ends up toppling over but he enjoys doing it.

A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

Maxwell has his own purse
Maxwell has a new special box

  1. Maxwell has started eating cereal
  2. Maxwell has his own purse
  3. Maxwell has a special box where he is able to put his special items
  4. Maxwell visited Whitley Village
  5. Maxwell is enjoying the sun
Maxwell has always been a bit funny about eating food since he refused to eat when I fed him. Since then he enjoys to eat only dry foods which he can handle. Its been a pain finding him foods to enjoy however he loves fruit, salad and Veg which is the main thing.
This week I tried Maxwell with some All-Bran cereal dry. Maxwell really enjoyed it.

Maxwell has always shown a interest in my purse however bits kept going missing when he played with it. recently A.Rachel dug out a little purse for him to play with. Its not great- It has girly flowers all over it, however it has helped Maxwell learn to put things in his purse and also helped him learn how to open and close the zip.

This week I have been tripping over Maxwell's smaller toys, so I decided to buy him a special box to put them in to keep them all safe. I bought him a small Lego brick which is very bright and Maxwell loves it.

A new shopping center opened this week and Maxwell and I went to visit. Maxwell had a great time shopping and he also went and had his feet measured. His feet still have not grown so he is not needing any new shoes as of yet.

The weather has improved a lot and Maxwell is enjoying the sun. We have been out on his trike and we have also spent the afternoon round A. Rachels playing in the garden with Ronnie the rabbit. Maxwell loves running around outside and he loves kicking a ball.

Maxwell has been waving
Maxwell loves to make things
  1. Maxwell took his 1st trip to Toys R Us.
  2. Maxwell loves to play ball.
  3. Maxwell loves to stack.
  4. Maxwell loves to wave.
  5. We have been busy crafting.
This week we visited Toys R Us. I am normally a bit sceptical of going to toy stores as I remember as a child I would always want something and I would make my parents buy me it so I expect Maxwell to be the same however Maxwell was as good as gold and we picked up some bits for him.
Maxwell was treated to a huge Little Tikes Carrier and 2 playskool toys which have gone into the Christmas/Birthday box I am sure he will enjoy them when he gets the chance to play with them.

Maxwell has been charging around a lot recently. He has learnt to run and since he has learnt he can not stop. He loves to run around the house mainly whilst throwing his ball we bought him. His throwing skills are great and he can throw quite far considering how small he is.

Maxwell loves to stack things. We bought him some blocks to stack this week, where he has to match shapes together and colours however he also loves to stack books and toys including his Playmobil cars.

Maxwell has masted waving. He loves to wave at people if they say "Hiya" or "Cya" but he also likes to wave at people on TV of they are waving or people in the street. He always thinks its very amusing.

Finally Maxwell and I have been busy crafting this week. We have made lots of things including badges with our badge it we were sent to review but we also have been drawing and creating toilet roll characters to go with Maxwell's books when I read him a story.

A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

Maxwell has been enjoying the sun.
He is a clean machine.
  1. Maxwell has had fun in the sun.
  2. Maxwell has been busy in the kitchen.
  3. Maxwell is speaking a lot more.
  4. Maxwell understands to tidy his mess up.
  5. I bought Maxwell A E Reader to read his books on.
This week we have been very lucky to have brilliant weather. The sun has been shining and it has been hot. Maxwell spent some time round his Auntie Rachel's at the weekend and had fun playing with his ball in the garden as well as blowing lots of bubbles. Maxwell has also been out on his trike this week which he loved.

Maxwell and I have been cooking a storm in the kitchen this week, from cakes to Mexican food, Maxwell loves to get involved. He loves mixing the cake mix and also likes eating ingredients. He will soon need a new chef outfit as his is getting a little too small.

Maxwell has been speaking a lot more this week and I think he is close to saying more words, he is saying Mumma and Dadda well and tries to speak other words. He also makes lots of sounds.

Maxwell has always been good at tidying up behind himself but this week I have seen a real difference in him. After getting his toys out, he has started to put them away without me asking him to. He manages to always put all his Playmobil bits back in the bag once using them and also puts all his teddy's back in his cot if he gets them out.

This week I bought Maxwell a E-reader. I know Maxwell is small however when I go to Britmums and other places I do not want to take tons of books to my Mums as Maxwell really enjoys listing to other reading him books. I bought him this to keep him entertained. I will also use it when I need to. It was a complete bargain being just £30 from £80 and I had vouchers to buy it.
