Introducing Saving To The Max

Over the last few weeks I have been working hard on a new project. As many of my readers know I love saving money, so it felt right I dedicated some of my time to showing people how to save money. I decided to create a new blog called Saving To The Max and I am hoping it will act as Mummy To The Max sister site.

I get asked all the time, questions on how to save money so I am hoping I can show people over there how you can. I have already written a few posts which will help new Mums, give you ideas on how to have a free weekend with the family and how to save money at the gym. The blog will be family and lifestyle orientated just like Mummy To The Max. There is also a £10 Amazon voucher competition running which I am hoping you will all take part in.

I really hope you can join me over on Saving To The Max and follow its journey as you have done with Mummy To The Max. It would be lovely to see you all over there.

A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

  1. Maxwell has stopped having naps in the day
  2. Maxwell went out for lunch
  3. Maxwell is saying more words
  4. Maxwell is learning ride around on his balance bike
  5. Maxwell has been very giggly
Maxwell has recently stopped having naps. He used to have a 1 hour nap a day however he has cut the naps and now goes to bed a little earlier at night. I have noticed this has improved his sleep and we manage to pack more fun into our day.

Maxwell went out for lunch this week. We had a lovely time and Maxwell enjoyed himself. Maxwell adores going out and always enjoys his food. He also loves nosing around the restaurant to see what others are up to and he likes to get peoples attention to try and talk to them.

Maxwell is slowly still trying to say more words. It is still frustrating that he knows what we are saying yet is still finding it hard to communicate with us. He now is at the stage where he likes to point to things to let us know what he wants or holds our hands and takes us to a room to show us what he wants.

Maxwell was recently sent a balance bike (review coming soon). Maxwell has really been enjoying himself on it and has been going round in the house on it whilst he gets his balance a bit better. Me and Ben are looking to buy him a helmet over the next few weeks so we maybe able to take him to the park and let him have a ride on it. Maxwell really enjoys going on it.

Maxwell has been very giggly over the last few weeks. He is always breaking out in a fit of laughter at the most simplest things whether it be on the TV, something he is doing or something else is doing.

This February I'm taking part in a campaign to help people take charge of their money.  The campaign is called The Great British Budget and the aim of it is simple, it wants to help you save money. I have always been keen on saving money and have always tried to deliver my readers on here money saving tips and special deals. When I was asked to take part in this campaign I knew it was right up my street.

Picking The Perfect Shoes For A Toddler

Recently I have been having trouble finding Maxwell the correct footwear. Maxwell is now 2 years old which means he has started to become more inquisitive about what he is wearing. Maxwell was recently bought a new pair of shoes for us to find out that not were they only difficult to get on and off  due to having high backs but he kept undoing the velcro on them.

I have recently been looking at Kids shoes and have been thinking about what shoes I need to buy Maxwell to replace his other shoes. After having a look around I have found I am a huge fan of Converse and Vans. I love the look of them, they are simple yet very trendy and are look great for him to wear everyday. They look cute enough to team with chinos or jeans and a nice jumper. I normally enjoy buying Maxwell bright colour shoes however I am thinking of buying him white shoes this time as they go with everything. The only worry I have is that they may get a little dirty.

Maxwell is now at the age where he will be attending nursery soon. By the time he is at nursery I am hoping he will be able to get his own shoes on and off. When he goes to nursery I will be looking for a pair of shoes for him which are colourful and dark so they hide the dirt a little more. I really like the 2 trendy pairs above which are Vans and Pumas.

What shoes does your little one wear? Do you have trouble with your children taking their shoes off?

OXO Tot Twist Top Water Bottle Review

Maxwell is at the age now where he has his own mind.He has started to make us aware of things he likes and other things which he doesn't like as much. For a while now Maxwell has been having his juice out of cartons and has been drinking his juice with as straw however accidents have happened and sometimes his drink has been spilt. Maxwell was really happy this week when he got sent a new water bottle to try out.

Maxwell was sent a OXO Tot Twist Top Bottle. The OXO Tot bottle has a unique design. The bottle features a twist lid, when you twist the lid of the bottle the non-slip lid reveals a soft straw that is comfortable for children to drink from. When closing the lid the straw is kept clean and the there is little chance the liquid in the bottle will leak.

The bottle has a large opening which is great when cleaning as there are no small parts that you have to reach. It also makes it easier to fill the bottle and add juice and ice. The bottle holds up to 300ml which is a good amount, this means I do not have to keep filling the bottle up as Maxwell can drink quite a lot in one go.

Overall Maxwell has really enjoyed using his new bottle. Maxwell has managed to spill some of his juice at lunch time but this is due to the lid being open and Maxwell being quite careless and shaking the bottle around. The large opening has made it easier for me to make Maxwell drinks and has enabled me to add ice into his drinks which will come in handy come the summer. Overall I have been impressed with the design and I am looking forward to buying a few more of these bottles for Maxwell to use.

I did not receive any financial reward for writing this review.
However we did receive the product for review purposes. Everything written in this post is my own, honest opinion.

What Max Wore Monday

People seem to be interested in what Maxwell tends to wear so I have decided to write a "What Max Wore Monday" post on my blog which will feature once a month. It will give my readers a little look into Maxwell's wardrobe and it may give you ideas in what you could dress your toddler in.  Maxwell's clothes come from everywhere. There is not specific shop I buy him clothes from so just about anything goes. I hope you enjoy reading.
Today Max is wearing:

Maxwells's Gilet is Mini Boden. It cost me around £3 when I had a £20 voucher to spend with them. The gilet fits really well and has a fleece layer inside which keeps Maxwell super warm in the winter.

Maxwell's jeans are from Next. I really like putting Maxwell in Next, not because I am a brand snob, just that Next clothes seem to last him well and rarely ever go out of shape. These jeans are the skinny type and can be bought in Next for around £10

Maxwell's shoes are Vans. Maxwell has these in blue but I am looking to buy him some in a two tone blue. A lot of people comment on them and say how cute they are. I picked these up in the sale for him at just £12 and they have lasted him really well. They are a definite hit on my toddler buying list.

Maxwell's Jumper is from Boots. It belongs to the Bows And Arrows collection. We bought this at Christmas so they have stopped selling but please take a look at Boot's Bow and Arrow  Collection, they sell some beautiful clothes.

End Of January Sales Haul

January has been great to us as a family. We have bought quite a lot but everything has been a complete bargain. This week I managed to pick up around £40 worth of stuff for Maxwell for £13, all of which is suitable for Christmas 2014. I will write a post when it all arrives but until then, this is what I have bought this week.

This week we bought Maxwell a Mike The Knight Alphabet book. Max has always been a fan of Mike and when we saw this priced at just £4 in Tesco we knew we must get it for Maxwell. We hope it will help him learn new words.

Today we visited Tesco. Upon having a look at clothing we found these cute socks for Maxwell. I love the funky designs and I love how bright they are. The socks were priced at £1.50 per pack but were reduced to 50p per pack.

I am a huge fan of putting Maxwell in Gap clothes and French Connection clothes. Although the brands are normally more expensive than supermarket clothing brands we sometime tend to buy I love a bargain. I managed to get the 2 French Connection tops for just £7 and the Gap top for £3. The tops would normally be over £30 for the 3 so we managed to save quite a lot of money on these.

Ben has been after a handheld vacuum cleaner for a while now. I have been looking out for a good deal for him however I have not come across a decent hoover for under £20. Today when browsing my local Tesco store I found this for just £5.50 reduced from £25! It is one of the best bargains we have got this year.

Our toaster has been on the blink for a while now. It sometimes cuts out when in use so today when we came across this toaster for £2 it was a definite buy. The toaster was priced at £9.50 so it was a steal. We are really happy with our new bargain and will welcome it into our home.

This week I managed to pick up these new Fred Perry shoes. The shoes are normally £45 and I have had my eye on them for a while. I like to style them with skinny jeans, I like there fit and I like there unique design. I was lucky enough to pick these up for just £10! They were the last in my size and I am really thrilled to have them in my shoe collection.

As you can see we have saved lots of money this week. Have you managed to purchase any bargains and if so what was your best buy?

Moments Which Mattered 2013

2013 had its ups and downs but we made it... We made it with memories, joyful memories which will never be replaced. This post is full of happiness, proud moment, magical moments and a few breathe taking moments.

2013 saw Maxwell turn into a loving, bright, fun one year old. Maxwell accomplished so many things in 2013 and met many targets. Maxwell learnt to walk, talk, wave, cuddle, kiss and be the most funniest little affectionate boy I could wish for in this world. Maxwell made me proud. Maxwell learnt to say no, learnt to throw balls at peoples head and he learnt to refuse to eat foods. As a new mother there were many times I wanted to give up with my patience being tested however I learnt to overcome these problems as Maxwell did and it has moulded him into the bubbly 2 year old I am blessed with now.

2013 taught me many new things about myself. It taught me I could go out and not have a anxiety attack if someone dared look at me, it taught me to be the best mother I could be to Maxwell even if I got things wrong and it taught me that the negative thoughts people have on "young" parents is wrong. I am a 22 year old mother. I do my best, I get things wrong, you learn from the wrong and make it right. I work hard for my son, as does his Dad and we provide the best care, love and attention we can to Maxwell. I look after Maxwell 90% of the time by myself. Ben works night shifts meaning he sleeps in the day. Me and Max have a very close bond and I am thrilled to have taught Maxwell so much in life.

2013 taught me to respect my family. Family do not come and go, family stick whenever times get tough.  I have learnt my Mum and Dad will always be there, they are just one call away and I have learnt that my sister is just down the road if I need any help or a chat. I have learnt mine and Ben relationship is strong and I know that the love for my family is never ending. Family are important and through my teenage life I think I took them for granted however times change and people change and I am proud to have them in my life now. Me and my sister went on many day trips, including the farm, the Big Reunion and to the zoo. My parents took us to the farm, spent magical days together helping care for Max and went on trips shopping with them. Me and Ben spent days together, went out for meals and had many days where we smiled.

2013 taught me that I can do anything if I set my mind to it and I can stick to things. One of my most proudest things I have archived in life is this blog. I have met so many new people, had so many new experiences and it has helped me form and create so many memories. It has given me chances to improve my life and has opened up many opportunities which have all benefited Maxwell. I have been to Britmums, been to events in London and down south and I have been able to try many new things which I may not have been able to afford thanks the the generosity of company's.

After reading a few blogs last night I found out that Lloyds Bank are running a competition to win an Ipad Mini. In order to enter, you must create a blog post on Moments That Mattered in 2013. This is my entry to the competition. I hope you have enjoyed reading as much as I have creating the memories and reliving them in this post.

A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

1 - Maxwell enjoys jumping.
2 - Maxwell likes playing skittles.
3 - Maxwell likes posing for photos.
4 - Maxwell's speech is slowly improving.
5 - Maxwell has started to enjoy playing independently.

Maxwell has started to enjoy jumping around the house. Every time he gets a little excited you see him jump up and down or run around the house whilst jumping. This week saw Maxwell get a Happy Hopper which he has enjoyed hopping around his room on. In the summer months it will be nice to see Maxwell jumping around the garden.

Maxwell has found a new game to play. He adores making skittles out of Megabloks, he builds a long line and then stands them up. He then aims his soft ball which he has to play in the house with and aims the ball and hits all the "skittles" over. He then goes and stands the "skittles" up and hits them down again. This has created hours of fun and enjoyment.

Maxwell has become more aware of me taking photos of him and has started to pose for photos. Some days he does not want his photo taken so he runs away and hides, or hides behind his hands. This to me shows how independent Maxwell is becoming as he now has choices.

Maxwell's speech is something which I have been concerned about. Maxwell can point to things such as his facial features and is well aware of number counting however Maxwell refuses to speak. Maxwell can say a handful of words and knows there meaning, but it is frustrating to see him not stringing sentences together.

Maxwell has started to play independently which has been nice to see. He used to want to sit with me and be cuddled or played with all day however this has now changed and Maxwell enjoys playing with his toys on his own and can keep himself amused for a good 20 mins at a time. This has allowed me to get on with household jobs however it is still nice to see that sometimes he still wants that cuddle and still enjoys Mummy playing with him in the afternoon.

Mini-b beanbag

Since moving 6 months ago we have been putting the finishing touches to our home. It has been a lengthy process however things have started to get into shape and it has started to look like our home. Everything now matches and we do not have odd coloured furnishings that are mismatched. Last week we were sent something which not only excited me but also excited Maxwell. Maxwell was sent a mini-b beanbag from Room To Grow. Instantly I knew it would be something Maxwell would enjoy and use.

Our beanbag arrived quickly and there were no problems with delivery. Upon opening the package I was surprised to see that the beanbag actually came in a bag. I thought this was a nice touch and something which would be useful for us when we move house again, decorate or want to store it as it will keep the bean bag in pristine condition.

The beanbag comes in a range of 11 bright colours to suit personal preference however I chose a red bean bag which I knew would suit Maxwell's Disney Car room as well as our black and red themed lounge. The beanbag includes a black rubber tag which makes it easy to move the beanbag round the house which is great as it makes it easier to transport to different rooms around the house. The beanbag is covered in a 2-way stretchable fabric, it is breathable, water-resistant, durable and easy to clean. Another big thing which I love about the beanbag is the fact you can use it outdoors. This summer I am looking forward to setting Maxwell a little play area in the garden and I can not wait for him to take his own personal beanbag outside.

The beanbag has been a huge hit with Maxwell. It allows Maxwell to sit comfortably when watching TV, reading his books and playing on his tab but I also love that Maxwell can lie down on it when he wants to watch a film or wants to play with something on the floor and wants that comfort below him, instead of laying on a hard surface.

The mini-b retails for £59.99 which I think is reasonable considering it has many uses. The beanbag is well made and I think it will last a number of years as it is a quality product. Overall the beanbag has been a huge hit in our house and I would consider buying another to keep at my sisters house for Maxwell to use when he goes and visits her.

Room to grow offer many beautiful products for childrens bedrooms as well as accessories and toys for the home. One of our favourite ranges that Room to grow have to offer is there dinosaur range. Maxwell and I are in love with all of their beautiful products but especially love the dinosaur bed. With Maxwell going into a bed soon, this may be something I will have to invest in.

I did not receive any financial reward for writing this review. However we did receive the product and a addition product for review purposes. Everything written in this post is my own, honest opinion.

Max the Master Of Disguise

Since Maxwell was born, I have enjoyed buying Maxwell cute dressing up outfits. He has many outfits and many photos of him in them so I thought the photo's deserved a slot on our blog. I have decided to make "Max the Master Of Disguise" into a monthly feature. The feature is simple, I shall post 1 photo of Maxwell in his dressing up outfits every month and I will give my readers a chance to win a £5 voucher if they can caption it.

To start off 2014,  I would like my readers to caption the below photo, to enter the competition all you need to do is enter the simple rafflecopter below.

Brother Max Non-Contact Thermometer Review

Just before Christmas Maxwell was rather poorly with a bug. He had a high temperature and had a bad cold. Normally I would have to fight with Maxwell to try and get his temperature using a thermometer in his ear which sometimes gave me a inaccurate reading however much to my relief we were recently sent the new Brother Max Non-Contact Thermometer.

The Non-Contact Thermometer is a great little product that is designed with parent and child in mind.
It is bright, compact and easy to use. It is the perfect size to grip in one hand which enables you to hold your sick child if needs be with the other hand. The design of the thermometer means that it is a non-contact thermometer. All you have to do is simply hold the thermometer close to your child's forehead and press a button for a reading.

There are many clever features about the thermometer. The thermometer has a great feature that uses a traffic light system. The light indicates weather your child's temperature is normal, raised or high, along with this the thermometer will actually give you a number reading. In addition to the traffic light system the thermometer also includes a back light which is perfect at night as it stops me having to turn lights on to see the temperature reading.

The thermometer has a clever memory feature and can store previous temperature readings which is handy for tracking how your child's temperature is progressing. This feature is brilliant especially if you have to go to the doctors and they asked if your child's temperature is raising.

The Thermometer also has a feature which lets you not only take your child's temperature but also room temperature. I will find this feature useful in the summer as Maxwell's room sometimes overheats, so it will be great to find out if we need to open windows or even bring a fan into his room to stop him getting hot and bothered.

The thermometer is priced at £34.99 on offer at Boots at the present moment. The thermometer requires 2 x AAA batteries to work which are supplied.

I did not receive any financial reward for writing this review.
However we did receive the product for review purposes. Everything written in this post is my own, honest opinion.
