Play Foam - Learning Resources Review

Are you looking for a mess free creative play resource?
Something which is fun for all the family?

Mummy Blog, Mummy To The Max, Parenting Blog, Mummy Blog, Mummy To The Max, Parenting Blog,

We were recently sent some Playfoam to review by Learning Resources. As soon as I knew we were to review the Playfoam I was excited. I knew it would be fun and Maxwell and I would enjoy playing with it together.

We received a pack of Play Foam which contained eight different colours. Four plain and four glittery sets of foam. At first the foam reminded me of the small polystyrene balls you can find in bean bags and I was worried that it may cause a mess all over the carpets but after playing with it we soon found this was not the case. The balls all stuck together and the foam retained its shape.

Mummy Blog, Mummy To The Max, Parenting Blog, Mummy Blog, Mummy To The Max, Parenting Blog, Mummy Blog, Mummy To The Max, Parenting Blog,

I sat Maxwell in his highchair and gave him the Playfoam to investigate. I did not want him to mash all the colours up so I gave him just 2 colours to play with. Maxwell did not mix the colours together but instead he sat quietly and started to try to build shapes out of the foam. The Playfoam is easy to mould and I enjoyed creating Mummy and Max and our little house which you can originally see in our header.

Mummy Blog, Mummy To The Max, Parenting Blog,

I was happy to see that the foam did not stick to our clothes, hands and carpet. It is a mess free creative play resource.

The product is aimed at children aged 3 and above and although Maxwell is younger than this he still enjoyed playing with it. I believe this product is for the young and the old and it can help create hours of fun for all the family at weekends, after school or on wet play days.

We used the play foam over a few weeks. I found the Playfoam did not dry out.

The Playfoam is priced at just £9 which in my eyes makes it great value for money. You are able to use it over and over again. Playfoam offers a non-toxic formula which makes it safe for youngsters to play with.

The only negative thing I have to say about the Playfoam is that we found it hard to store. When we originally got the Playfoam it sat in its plastic wrapper however unfortunately the packaging had to go in the bin as it got scruffy so we have been putting the foam in small plastic lunch boxes to keep it safe.

If you have enjoyed reading our review you can enter to win a set of foam for your family thanks to Learning Resources. There are 5 packs up for grabs. You can enter their competition on their Facebook Page. The competition ends 7th June.

I did not receive any financial reward for writing this review.
However we did receive the product for review purposes. Everything written in this post is my own, honest opinion.

A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

Maxwell has his own purse
Maxwell has a new special box

  1. Maxwell has started eating cereal
  2. Maxwell has his own purse
  3. Maxwell has a special box where he is able to put his special items
  4. Maxwell visited Whitley Village
  5. Maxwell is enjoying the sun
Maxwell has always been a bit funny about eating food since he refused to eat when I fed him. Since then he enjoys to eat only dry foods which he can handle. Its been a pain finding him foods to enjoy however he loves fruit, salad and Veg which is the main thing.
This week I tried Maxwell with some All-Bran cereal dry. Maxwell really enjoyed it.

Maxwell has always shown a interest in my purse however bits kept going missing when he played with it. recently A.Rachel dug out a little purse for him to play with. Its not great- It has girly flowers all over it, however it has helped Maxwell learn to put things in his purse and also helped him learn how to open and close the zip.

This week I have been tripping over Maxwell's smaller toys, so I decided to buy him a special box to put them in to keep them all safe. I bought him a small Lego brick which is very bright and Maxwell loves it.

A new shopping center opened this week and Maxwell and I went to visit. Maxwell had a great time shopping and he also went and had his feet measured. His feet still have not grown so he is not needing any new shoes as of yet.

The weather has improved a lot and Maxwell is enjoying the sun. We have been out on his trike and we have also spent the afternoon round A. Rachels playing in the garden with Ronnie the rabbit. Maxwell loves running around outside and he loves kicking a ball.

Bandai Badge It Badge Maker Review

Are you looking for crafting fun?
Suitable for all the family with no mess?

With the wet weather days happening a lot in the United Kingdom at the moment and the long summer holidays fast approaching, I have the ideal craft kit suitable for all the family. Forget the paint on clothes, glue on tables, crayon on walls, and playdough crushed into the carpet, I have found a mess free craft which provides hours of fun.

Mummy Blog, Mummy To The Max, Parenting Blog,

We were recently sent the The Bandai Badge It Badge Maker. It is a badge kit which is targeted at children aged 6+.
In the box you are able to find:

  • Badge It! badge making machine
  • 15 Badge Tops
  • 15 Badge Bottoms
  • 15 transparent seals
  • Template
  • Badge Design Sheet - 15 Designs
  • 15 safety pins
  • Instructions

Mummy Blog, Mummy To The Max, Parenting Blog, Mummy Blog, Mummy To The Max, Parenting Blog,

Maxwell is a little young to use the badge maker at the moment due to small bits that he could choke on and the sharp backs being able to hurt him however he did help with things that I felt were suitable for him to get involved with.
After reading the instructions, I found that they were clear to follow and they included diagrams which I  believe helped me get through the badge making process. Although the badge making unit is made of plastic it is actually very strong. I found it quite hard at times to turn the wheel on the top to create the badges in the maker.

Mummy Blog, Mummy To The Max, Parenting Blog, Mummy Blog, Mummy To The Max, Parenting Blog,

The set came with some ready printed circular pictures for making badges which were in funky designs. Alternatively, there was a template that could be used to cut pictures from magazines which I believe could put a unique twist onto any badges people would like to make.
This product would be great for not only children but for other people who need badges such as teachers, companies and at conferences where you need named badges. I also think the badge it would be appropriate at children's parties as you are able to make badges in a matter of minutes.

Mummy Blog, Mummy To The Max, Parenting Blog, Mummy Blog, Mummy To The Max, Parenting Blog,

The only thing I would like to change about the Badge It is that I think that they should offer the badge set with plastic backs as well as the pin backs so that younger children are able to wear the badges too and get involved with the Badge It fun.
Badge It costs £20 and Refill packs £9.00

Overall I would rate the Bandai Badge It Badge Maker 4/5.

Little Green Sheep's Mattress Protector Review

Did you know a baby spends on average 18 hours a day sleeping?
Are you looking for your baby to enjoy a comfy sleep?

Mummy Blog, Mummy To The Max, Parenting Blog,

We were recently sent a Little Green Sheep organic mattress protector for Maxwell to try. Not only do they protect your baby's mattress from any accidents but also provide a barrier against dust mites.

Maxwell was recently ill and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to start using the mattress protector in case Maxwell had any accidents in the night.
When fitting the sheet onto Maxwell's mattress I found that the protector fitted well. I was slightly worried that the protector didn't tuck under the mattress and it would move around if Maxwell wiggled but I was worrying over nothing as once the protector was on, it did not move.

Unfortunately Maxwell was sick during the night but luckily the protector proved that it could absorb well and saved Maxwell's mattress for any stains and wetness.
I took the protector straight off and began to clean the protector with a wet cloth and some fairy liquid. I found it was easy to clean and once having washed it in my washing machine I found that it had held its shape and had not bubbled.

Mummy Blog, Mummy To The Max, Parenting Blog,

Mummy Blog, Mummy To The Max, Parenting Blog,

My overall thought was that the protector was great. It was very soft for Maxwell to sleep on and was not the old plastic crinkly sheet you would normally find to protect a mattress. It washes well and would be a great addition to any babies bed.

The Little Green Sheep mattress protector is a thick, unbleached, organically grown cotton sheet which has thin polyurethane waterproof layer. It is available in a variety of sizes to fit. It will fit a Single bed (90x190cm), cot (60x120cm), cot bed (70x140cm), moses basket (35x65cm), carrycot or pram (30x70cm )and crib (40x80cm). Prices range from £9.99 and go up to the price of £39.99.

The Little Green Sheep company promises that all of their products are free from chemicals, have sustainability and are made with quality. The Little Green Sheep are so confident that there products work they offer a 30 day money back guarantee so you can be sure that what you buy is perfect for you and your baby.

Overall I would rate The Little Green Sheeps mattress protector 5/5.

A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

Maxwell has been waving
Maxwell loves to make things
  1. Maxwell took his 1st trip to Toys R Us.
  2. Maxwell loves to play ball.
  3. Maxwell loves to stack.
  4. Maxwell loves to wave.
  5. We have been busy crafting.
This week we visited Toys R Us. I am normally a bit sceptical of going to toy stores as I remember as a child I would always want something and I would make my parents buy me it so I expect Maxwell to be the same however Maxwell was as good as gold and we picked up some bits for him.
Maxwell was treated to a huge Little Tikes Carrier and 2 playskool toys which have gone into the Christmas/Birthday box I am sure he will enjoy them when he gets the chance to play with them.

Maxwell has been charging around a lot recently. He has learnt to run and since he has learnt he can not stop. He loves to run around the house mainly whilst throwing his ball we bought him. His throwing skills are great and he can throw quite far considering how small he is.

Maxwell loves to stack things. We bought him some blocks to stack this week, where he has to match shapes together and colours however he also loves to stack books and toys including his Playmobil cars.

Maxwell has masted waving. He loves to wave at people if they say "Hiya" or "Cya" but he also likes to wave at people on TV of they are waving or people in the street. He always thinks its very amusing.

Finally Maxwell and I have been busy crafting this week. We have made lots of things including badges with our badge it we were sent to review but we also have been drawing and creating toilet roll characters to go with Maxwell's books when I read him a story.

Cinco de Mayo - with Discovery Foods with fun activities.

Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican celebration on 5th May. To celebrate, Discovery Foods sent me some of their products to try. We were sent a lovely bag full of products which included  a Perfect Fajita Kit, the *new* garlic and herb sour cream and a Fajita Cooking Sauce.

Mummy Blog, Mummy To The Max, Parenting Blog,

I decided on making the Perfect Fajita as I thought this would be great for all the family.
You will need-
  • The Perfect Fajita Kit which includes 8 flour tortillas, a packet of medium salsa and Fajita seasoning mix.
  • 500g of chicken breast, sliced into strips.
  • 1 medium onion slices
  • 2 peppers - 1 red one yellow
  • Cheese - Optional.
Mummy Blog, Mummy To The Max, Parenting Blog,

  • Prepare Chicken. Cut it into thin slices and prepare onions and pepper. Cook Chicken off for around 3 Min's and add oil and the seasoning mix. Wait around 3 minutes and add the onion and pepper. Make sure the chicken is well cooked. Note - If you are looking for milder fajitas use less seasoning.
  • Warm the tortilla in a frying pan for around 6 seconds. Make sure you do not burn the wrap.
  •  Add cheese, salsa and herb sour cream sauce. Serve with salad and spiced wedges to make the meal out of this world.

Mummy Blog, Mummy To The Max, Parenting Blog,

This recipe really is very easy to make. The box states clear instructions of what you need to do and how to prepare the food. This meal is great for all the family and only takes a matter of minutes but tastes wonderful!
I was surprised to see that Maxwell also enjoyed a mini wrap I made him. I thought he may find the chicken spicy however this was not the case, he really enjoyed trying the tortilla and I would give it to him again.
I believe this is the perfect healthy meal.
I served my fajitas with salad and wedges but there are other options that you are able to serve it with. Why not try it with rice or potatoes?
I would rate the Discovery products we tried 5/5!

Mummy Blog, Mummy To The Max, Parenting Blog,

Whilst preparing the meal why not give the children the option to do something fun. You could give them something fun to colour in or You could get them to create a fun story time using toilet rolls to make a Mexican character.

You will need -
  • Toilet Roll
  • Coloured Paper
  • Foam shapes or Foam to make shapes
  • 2 Feathers
  • Googly eyes
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Mummy Blog, Mummy To The Max, Parenting Blog,

  • Cover the toilet roll in paper.Cut piece to size. Roll the paper round the roll and glue it into place.
  • Stick Foam on the roll to decorate it. Try to create a funny face or decorate with lots of bright colours.
  • Stick googly eyes in place. Bigger eyes can give better effects.
  • Add feathers for your characters hair, I find bright colours work best.
  • Finally add the stick so your character can come to life.

Disclosure: We were given these products by Discovery Foods to do this review and to enter a competition hosted by Britmums and Discovery Food.

A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

Maxwell has been enjoying the sun.
He is a clean machine.
  1. Maxwell has had fun in the sun.
  2. Maxwell has been busy in the kitchen.
  3. Maxwell is speaking a lot more.
  4. Maxwell understands to tidy his mess up.
  5. I bought Maxwell A E Reader to read his books on.
This week we have been very lucky to have brilliant weather. The sun has been shining and it has been hot. Maxwell spent some time round his Auntie Rachel's at the weekend and had fun playing with his ball in the garden as well as blowing lots of bubbles. Maxwell has also been out on his trike this week which he loved.

Maxwell and I have been cooking a storm in the kitchen this week, from cakes to Mexican food, Maxwell loves to get involved. He loves mixing the cake mix and also likes eating ingredients. He will soon need a new chef outfit as his is getting a little too small.

Maxwell has been speaking a lot more this week and I think he is close to saying more words, he is saying Mumma and Dadda well and tries to speak other words. He also makes lots of sounds.

Maxwell has always been good at tidying up behind himself but this week I have seen a real difference in him. After getting his toys out, he has started to put them away without me asking him to. He manages to always put all his Playmobil bits back in the bag once using them and also puts all his teddy's back in his cot if he gets them out.

This week I bought Maxwell a E-reader. I know Maxwell is small however when I go to Britmums and other places I do not want to take tons of books to my Mums as Maxwell really enjoys listing to other reading him books. I bought him this to keep him entertained. I will also use it when I need to. It was a complete bargain being just £30 from £80 and I had vouchers to buy it.

Anti-Allergy Beds and Mattresses from Silentnight

Mummy Blog, Mummy To The Max, Parenting Blog,

Around one in three people in the UK will be affected by allergies at some point in their lives. Sadly this number is on the rise, with more and more people being affected by an allergy. A big culprit lies in the bedroom. Dust mites are a common cause of allergic reactions. Over 10,000 dust mites are thought to be thriving in the average bed.

Dust mites are tiny creatures measuring no more than a quarter of a millimetre long. They're invisible to the naked eye and are harmless but their droppings can trigger allergies which are particularly associated with asthma, eczema and allergic rhinitis.
The heat and moisture that a persons body makes during the night, along with the dead skin cells that we routinely shed, can encourage large populations of dust mites to thrive in the fabrics of your bedding.

Thanks to Silentnight Beds, people who suffer from these allergies, no longer have to suffer as there is a new solution. Silentnight Beds have created a new range of beds and mattress's which has been fully approved by Allergy UK. It is a 100% natural solution that releases friendly bacteria while you sleep to combat the most common allergy triggers, such as dust mite allergies.

Mummy Blog, Mummy To The Max, Parenting Blog,

The matress is made up of Purotex. Purotex is an active probiotic that is placed inside millions of tiny capsules woven into the fabric that we use to make the comfortable quilted top layer of our mattresses. When you get into bed, the friction created by your body on the mattress causes a small part of the micro-capsules to open up and activate the probiotics.
Once released, the friendly bacteria absorbs moisture and prevents bed bugs, dust mites and mold from developing ensuring that your mattress remains hygienically clean to promote healthy, restful sleep.

A great thing about these beds and mattresses is that they have the Seal of approval. When you see a product with this logo on it, you have the reassurance the product has been scientifically tested to prove it is efficient at reducing/removing allergens from the environment of allergy and asthma sufferers or the products have significantly reduced allergen/chemical content.

The testing is carried out by an independant laboratory to protocols which have been created for the Seal of Approval by leading allergy specialists, specifically to benefit the sufferers of allergy, asthma, sensitivity and intolerance.

Mummy Blog, Mummy To The Max, Parenting Blog,

For a full list of Purotex beds please check Silentnight's website.

  5. Maxwell's favourite game to play is hide and seek.
This week has not been a fun week. Maxwell has been very poorly with a viruses and it has seen him not being the normal fun little boy he normally is. The virus really hit him hard and he spent a lot of time sleeping and crying. It was awful to see my helpless little boy just lying there and knowing there was nothing I could do about it. Maxwell ended up getting so bad we went to visit a emergency doctor.  He hated the doctor and worked himself into a state. The doctor gave us some medicine to give to Maxwell and thankfully he is now getting back to his usual self.

Last week Maxwell and I were lucky to win a new buggy. Not the push a long buggy, a buggy for Maxwell to sit in for the summer and explore. It has a parent handle so I am able to push it along and it is in the shape of a car. It has a cool bonnet where we are able to put our belongings when we go out. It will be getting a lot of use in the summer.

Maxwell and I are lucky enough to live in the New Forest and live just a short car ride away from Paultons park. Last year we thought Maxwell was a too young to visit, however this summer me and my sister plan to take Maxwell for a day out. We have got the tickets to go so we will definitively be visiting. Maxwell loves Peppa Pig so he will love Peppa Pig world which is at the park.

Whilst Maxwell was poorly, he didn't want to do much however since he has been a little better he loves playing hide and seek with me. He loves to hide behind me and jump out on me when I pretend I do not know where he is. He has got very cheeky. He also loves to hide behind my laptop if I am on it and jump up and scream with laughter.
