A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

  1. Maxwell has not been coping well with the heat
  2. Maxwell is looking forward to meeting Amelia and Jack on holiday
  3. Maxwell has started to have very bad tantrums
  4. Maxwell hates loud noises
  5. Maxwell has been enjoying adventures
This week Maxwell has not been coping well with the heat. Maxwell is normally put to bed at around 7pm however this week he has been going to bed and has then been getting back up. Before he goes to bed we always leave the upstairs windows open and the bottom windows open on the catch so the house can air. As soon as Maxwell is put into bed I close his window down to the fact we have a train line running at the back of our house and the trains can often keep Maxwell awake however I always leave the front windows open. This week  Maxwell has been awaking in the evening or the early hours of the morning drenched in sweat. This week Ben and  I have basically tried everything to cool Max down but Max has taken a disliking to a lot of things. He hates the noise of a fan which we put in his room, he dislikes ice cold drinks, he hates having the window open and he doesn't like having a cotton blanket over him instead of his duvet. At the present moment I am hoping it will cool down however I do not know how he will react to the summer heat.

In a few days Ben, Maxwell and I will be going to Wales for our first little holiday. We are all really excited however Maxwell is always extremely excited due to the fact 2 of my best blogging friends will also be going along with their children who Maxwell is really eager to meet. Maxwell doesn't get to spend much time with children his age so it will be exciting to see how he reacts to other small people. I am sure he will make great friendships with Amelia and Jack.

This week Maxwell has bought a lot of stress to our home. When Maxwell was smaller he barely ever had tantrums, however all this has changed over the last week. This week we have had screaming, hitting, tantrums on the floor and the screams of no if Ben or I dare tell Maxwell off. It is really frustrating to see and put up with so I hope Maxwell's behaviour improves. The tantrums do not last all day but can last minutes and he is fine again. I believe he is trying to test the boundaries.

This week we have learnt Maxwell hates loud noises. He used to love the vacuum cleaner and even loud music so he could bop along and dance however these are all no go's. He screams and cries if he is exposed to a loud noise and often runs away and hides. This is a recent problem so I am hoping he will grow out of it soon.

We are really lucky to live were we do and this week Maxwell and I have managed to visit the park and even go on a country walk. The country walk is beautiful and allows us to see lots of nature, beautiful surroundings and even a lovely stream. Everytime we come back from our walk Maxwell crashes out, he loves going for walks and especially loves wearing his welly boots.

Introducing Mummy To The Max's Fathers Day Gift Feature 2014

In just 16 Days we will be celebrating Fathers Day. To celebrate, we wanted to bring you a fab Fathers Day feature. We hope that you enjoy our feature and are inspired by some of our posts. We hope to bring to you some food ideas, some money saving ideas and some great gift ideas.

Your Sports ID Review

To kick off our feature I wanted to share a fab gift idea which I know Ben would be delighted to receive this Fathers Day. Just in time to celebrate the World Cup, I bring to you the amazing idea of Your Sports ID. Your Sports ID has been created for football fans and players alike. Your Sports ID ensure that they provide high quality, great value footballs and official club merchandise to their customers. With over 26 footballs and a number of other football items to choose from there's something for every football fan on Your Sports ID's site to choose from.

Ben is a massive Manchester United fan, he has managed to watch home games, go and see testimonials and even manages to go for tours up in Manchester. Ben adores Manchester United and the perfect gift for him to receive this Fathers Day would be something related to Manchester United. As soon as Yours Sports ID got in touch with me to ask would I like to review one of their products, I knew exactly what Ben would like to receive as a gift - a Manchester United Football.

Upon browsing Yours Sports ID website I found that I was able to choose from 2 Manchester United balls. I was able to choose a plain logo themed one or one which had logos and signatures on. I decided to choose the plain logo themed one as I thought Ben would enjoy the style of it more and he would be drawn to the personalisation more.

Once I had chosen the ball I was able to choose to have the Ball personalised. I instantly knew what I was going to have. I decided to go for Bens surname as well as his favourite number, 10. I was able to input these details easily on to the website and I was also able to choose what colour I would like the writing on the ball as well as font and size. The process was extremely easy and the website was simple to use. Once I had checked out, I waited for the ball to arrive. It arrived in good time and was packaged well.

Yours Sports ID do not charge any extra for the personalisation of the ball which I thought was brilliant. The ball was reasonably priced at  £8.95 and shipping cost just £3.50. Priced at just £12.45 I believe this is a great gift for any footy loving Dads this fathers day.  The gift idea is unique and simple however it will not break your bank balance and you know you will receive a good, quality item.

I did not receive any financial reward for writing this review.
However we did receive the product for review purposes. Everything written in this post is my own, honest opinion.

What is in Maxwell's Travel Holiday Bag

It is now only a week until we go away on holiday. We are quite prepared and have managed to think about what we will need to take however one of my worries at the present moment is how are we going to keep Maxwell entertained as it is a long journey to our holiday destination (Wales). In the car it will take us around 4 hours, Ben and I have planned out some toilet stops however we know this will not keep Maxwell entertained in the car. Over the past week I have managed to buy Maxwell some items suitable for his bag, here is what Maxwell has got:

1. 12 Pack Of Dinosaurs
I thought these would be nice for Maxwell to play with in the car, seeing as there is 12 of them he can let his imagination run wild. If any slip down the back of the seat or the footwell then he will have some others to play with.

2. 8 Pack Of Cars
These are really to use whilst we are on holiday as Maxwell adores playing with his cars, however I am also hoping that Maxwell will get to enjoy these in the car for a few minutes.

3. Twist & Lock Blocks
These blocks look fantastic to keep Maxwell entertained. They twist and lock so Maxwell will be able to play with these for the whole journey if he want's to. He can make different shapes with them and learn how to connect them all up.

4.2 Wooden Maraca Rattles
Ben and I plan to take a CD for Maxwell to grove to so we thought these would be fun for him. Maxwell loves singing and dancing and loves to make music, so we thought these would be perfect for the back of the car. Hopefully the noise doesn't annoy Ben to much.

5.Crayola Colouring Book With Crayons
Maxwell loves to draw and colour so I thought a colouring book and crayons would be a must for the car. Ben and I also plan to stop to grab something to eat, so I thought this would keep Maxwell entertained if we have to wait for our food.

6 .Peppa Pig: Stomp and Roar!
Maxwell adores Peppa Pig so I thought this book would be fun for him as it has sounds for him to enjoy as well as pictures. This book will be read to Maxwell before bed whilst we are also on holiday.

7. Mickey Mouse Magnetic Sketcher
I thought this would be fun to include in Maxwell's bag as he enjoys drawing, being so tiny I also figured it would take minimum room in Maxwell's bag so it would be the perfect little extra to add.

We are hoping the above will keep  Maxwell entertained on the way to Wales as there is quite a lot of bits for him to be getting on with, we also hope it keeps him entertained whilst we are there. All these bits cost around a few pounds each so it was inexpensive to create Maxwell a travel bag.  A few other things will also be going in his bag, including my tablet with some downloaded apps on, Maxwell's trunki blanket and pillow, food, snacks and a drink, nappy and wet wipes for service station stops and a change of clothes incase he has a accident. I am hoping the journey will be stress free there.

A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

  1. Maxwell now loves to dance, roll and jump around
  2. Maxwell may need to start taking naps throughout the day
  3. Maxwell has tried new foods this week
  4. Maxwell has enjoyed colouring this week
  5. Maxwell will be starting potty training as soon as we come back from holiday
This week has seen Maxwell dance, roll and jump around the house. It seems he doesn't enjoy walking any more and every footstep he takes now has to be a little adventure for him. Maxwell adores music and now has a radio in his playroom. I often catch him dancing along to songs and shaking his head around. Maxwell has learnt to roll around and when he gets excited he loves to roly poly across the floor.

Over the past week we have seen Maxwell starting to misbehave in the late afternoon. The only thing I can really put it down to is tiredness as he is generally good for the rest of the day. Maxwell stopped having naps many months ago and I am thinking about giving him a short nap in the afternoon. If I do give him a short nap, I am scared it will mess his bedtime routine up and I will go back to having sleepless nights. I will see how we get on this week and then make my decision.

Maxwell can still be quite fussy about what he eats however this week Maxwell has tried some different things. Maxwell has tried sausage, ketchup, mince meat in a bolognaise sauce and egg which is brilliant. Please note they were not all mixed together but separate.
Maxwell still adores eating fruit, veg and salad which is also great. He also still eats to hot meals a day but sometimes enjoys a snacky lunch of crackers, salad and other bits and bobs.

Over the last week Maxwell has enjoyed sitting down and having some quiet time away from the TV. Maxwell has been drawing and colouring in his colouring book which is full of patterns and plain pages so Maxwell is able to get creative. Maxwell used to hate doing sit down activities but I have been pleasantly surprised at the amount of time that he has been spending doing his drawing and coloring activities. It is lovely to see Maxwell's skills improving.

I think Maxwell is now at the age where he is ready to start potty training.  As soon as we come back off holiday I think we will start encouraging Max to potty train. I have started to prepare bits and pieces and this week  I am going to look into getting a reward system into place which I hope he will understand. I am very scared about the transition at the present moment however I know it is probably a equally scary time for him and I need to show him as much support as I possibly can. Look out for updates on his potty training story.

Bathroom Safety For Your Toddler

Maxwell loves having a bath, playing with his bath toys and as a result he loves splashing water over either Ben or I and over the floor at bathroom, however the bathroom can pose many risks for your toddler.
To help prevent accidents and to keep your toddler safe consider the following tips:

Make sure that any medicines are put in a locked cupboard or out of reach of your child. Remember to place your mouthwash out of reach as it can contain more alcohol than some wine! Always ensure your cosmetics and sharp objects, eg razors, scissors, tweezers, are safely out of reach.

Get everything ready before you bath your toddler. Make sure their towel, nappy and clothes are to hand. Never leave your toddler alone in the bath whilst you go and get things ready. A simple accident can happen in a matter of minutes.

To help to prevent scalds, when filling the bath make sure you run the cold tap first. Before placing your child into the water make sure you take the opportunity to test the water. The water should feel warm to your skin, not hot. Once your toddler is in, teach your toddler to sit in the bath, not to stand. Your child could easily slip and fall back and knock his or her head. Make sure whilst your child is also in the bath that they do not to play with the taps to prevent scalding.. Do not rely on bath seats to totally support your toddler as some seats can tip over due to lack of suction.

Never leave your toddler alone in the bath .... ignore the ringing telephone or doorbell. Only an inch or two of water poses a risk of drowning. If you have to leave the bathroom scoop your toddler up in a towel and take them with you. If you really do need to go and do something important you could always leave your toddler in a safe place such as their cot.

Bathroom floors can become wet and slippery so teach your child not to run in the bathroom. Always empty the bath immediately after giving your toddler a bath and I always leave the toilet seat down as well. If the floor is wet soak any excess water up as this can be dangerous for others wanting to use the bathroom after your toddler has been in there.

Capsule Holiday Wardrobe with M&Co - Mummy And Son Collection

Earlier on this week, I saw a competition which I thought would be fun to enter. The competition challenged me to make an holiday wardrobe capsule. M&Co asked bloggers to spend just £100 on an outfit of their choice and blog about it. To be a little different I decided to create Max and I an outfit each whilst spending just £100. I am thrilled with our outfit choices. Here is what I came up with for both of us to wear. The total of these 2 outfits is: £98.50.

1. Filigree sunglasses - £10.00
To protect my eyes from the sun this summer I find it important to always carry a pair of sunglasses with me. I love the design of these, the medium sized lens are perfect. I also love how the sunglass legs match the gold theme which is linked to my outfit throughout.

2. Cut out sandals - £15.00
The simple yet stylish design of these sandals will keep my feet cool this summer. In either black or white these sandals are likely to match any outfit.

I am always keen to catch a bargain, this dress is priced from £49.00 down to £30.00 which is a huge saving. I love the gold detail around the neck and I believe this dress can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion you are planning on wearing it. I love the bright colours, this dress will make you stand out from the crowd this summer.

4. Heart stud earrings - £2.00
Priced at just £2.00 this gold earrings are simple but cute. Matching the gold theme of the outfit these earrings are hardly going to break your bank balance. Small accessories make an outfit and I think these are super stylish.

5.Woven bangle - £12
I think this accessory jumps out and says look at me which is key in every outfit. I love this bangles simple design. The design means that the bangle can be used over and over again.

1.Roll up chinos - £11.00
Maxwell is an adventurous little boy and loves to run around and play. The material of these chinos will keep Maxwell cool this summer. The navy colour is practical and will hide any dirt whilst playing. These trousers are smart and can either be dressed up or down.

2.Car t-shirt  - £3.50
This t-shirt is a bargain. Priced at just £3.50 the design of the t-shirt is simple but suitable for a car mad little boy. I love how the cars are bright, this t-shirt stands out from the crowd.

To match the fun t-shirt these shoes feature a car design on the sole. These shoes look comfy for Maxwell and something which he would enjoy wearing. The velcro means that they would be easy to get on and off and they will also protect his feet and keep them cool in the warm weather.

Maxwell adores wearing sunglasses, not only do they look cool but they also keep his eyes protected in the sun. Featuring a simple design these will be the perfect accessory to match Maxwell's outfit this summer.

I was amazed at how cheaply you could pick bits up from M&Co. The clothes are stylish and there is a huge collection to choose from. We had £1.50 left of our budget which I think is amazing as I managed to choose 2 full outfits for under £100. Maxwell and I would welcome this fab collection for our holidays which are in just 2 weeks time. I hope you have enjoyed Maxwell and I's outfit posts.

Takeaway.com Review

Just before we moved I had an exciting email from Takeaway.com asking if we could review their services. I of course jumped at the chance. Every so often me and Ben love to sit down, take a break and eat a tasty takeaway. We love to watch soaps in front of the TV and I love the fact that I get to relax and I can let someone else cook for me, so essentially I get a night off.

Once settled in front of the TV last Saturday I logged into my computer and visited the http://www.takeaway.com/  website. The first thing I noticed was that the website itself looked smart. Using bright orange and black colours to attract the eye I found it was really easy to navigate around and it was very easy to use. To get started I had to simply type my postcode into the postcode checker, I then awaited eagerly to see what takeaways would pop up.

After waiting a few minutes I found that 2 takeaways were listed in our local area. Both were chicken/kebab type of places and places which we had not visited before. After a little discussion and having a look at the menus Ben and I decided to choose the one which had the best reviews which was Tony's Grill. I found the reviews which takeaway.com had on their site very helpful. I thought this was a nice touch to let people know what other people thought. I always take note of reviews and other customers opinions and seeing at Tony's grill had 5 stars and the competing place only had 3 stars Tony was our winner.

After spending a short period of time looking at Tony's menu we decided we would make a order. The ordering process was very easy and I was thrilled to see that I had options such as whether I would like to put salad into my food and which sauces would I prefer. I also liked the fact that the menu was put into categories and that there was also a special offer section.

Once we had chosen what we would like to eat, I was able to see my order on the right hand side of my screen. On this side I was also able to see if there was a minimum spend when purchasing my takeaway and if there was a delivery charge. We were not charged for delivery however there was a £20 minimum spend which we met. .

After 70 minutes of waiting for our takeaway it arrived. I found the timing a little stupid as we only ordered a few things off the menu however prior to its arrival we were told it would take 45-60 mins, so the timing was only 10 minutes out.  I have to admit the food was a little cold when it arrived which was disappointing as it took quite a while to get to us however we still really enjoyed our food and it was nice that someone cooked for us that evening and we got to sit back and relax. I would be happy to use Takeaway.com again and I would perhaps like to try a different takeaway.

Although we found the restaurant we used on Takeaway.com a little disappointing, we really enjoyed the whole ordering process which Takeaway.com offered. We would 100% use the Takeaway.com website again and I think it would be really handy to use when we are away.

We were sent a voucher in exchange for this review however all thoughts and opinions are of my own.

A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

  1. Maxwell has got very good at identifying things
  2. Maxwell is thrilled to be going to see Peppa Pig's Big Splash
  3. Maxwell is really enjoying the sun and loves to play in the garden
  4. Maxwell dislikes loud noises and hates flies
  5. Maxwell loves eating fruit at the moment in the hot weather
Maxwell has got very good at identifying things this week. When asked a simple question like "where is the hairbrush", Maxwell will go and find it and present it to me. Maxwell can now identify many things however his speech is still not quite there however it is coming on leaps and bounds and Maxwell is saying more words each week. Maxwell's words are also becoming more clearer.

Maxwell is a huge fan of Peppa Pig and if I allowed him to, he would watch her all day. Over the last few weeks I have been trying very hard to win Maxwell some Peppa Pig Big Splash Tickets, she will be visiting Southampton in October and she will be doing a live show at the theatre. After looking into the cost of tickets I found it would cost over £30 for just me and him to go, I knew I had to take Maxwell so I set about trying to win some tickets for him! Fortunately I did and in October Maxwell will be going to see Peppa's live show.

This week has seen Maxwell spend a lot of time in the garden. Maxwell loves roaming the garden and enjoys playing in his playhouse, riding his bike and playing on his happy hopper.  It's lovely to see him play in the garden. Maxwell did have a tiny accident which saw him fall off his bike and get a grazed arm and leg - his first grazes.

This week I had a treadmill delivered in the hope I may loose some weight. The treadmill is quite loud when it is running and Maxwell hates the noise.  He screams and cries which means I have been using it in the evening when he is asleep. Maxwell also was attacked by a fly this week and he hated it buzzing around him. He ran out into the garden and refused to come back in until the fly I had made its way out.

With this hot weather Maxwell has gone off a lot of hot meals so he has been eating a lot of salad and fruit.  Maxwell now eats a wide range of fruit which is wonderful and especially enjoys raspberries and grapes. I have been making him fruit skewers to enjoy and buying him a lot of juicy fruit.

Original YBIKE Balance Bike Review

Since moving Maxwell has spent a lot of time in the garden. He loves playing in the garden and he can end up spending hours out there. A few months ago Maxwell was sent a YBIKE to review. For a few months now we have been reviewing it and so far we have been very impressed by it.

The YBIKE arrived quickly and was well packaged. The YBIKE came in a single box which wasn't large. Upon opening I was impressed to see that the bike needed minimal work to get it looking like a bike and there were only a few bits to fit together. The assembly of it was extremely easy thanks to the easy to read instructions. The instructions included diagrams and I found that the bike took minutes to put together which is brilliant when you have a eager toddler wanting to get on it. Once up, I was impressed with the way that the bike looked. It was a bike which would stand out from the crowd. Coming in a orange and black colour it was very eye catching.

The bike itself seemed strong and stable and I was certain that the 2 benefits YBIKE describe on their website about the bike were true. YBIKE say that the benefits of the bike are:
  • Substantial improvements in both static and dynamic balance.
  • Substantial improvements in bilateral coordination.
I was also impressed to see that the bike would help Maxwell's confidence when riding a bike and would also improve his physical activity.

At first Maxwell's was very wobbly on the bike, hated sitting down on it and was also very cautious when using it however over recent weeks Maxwell's confidence on the bike has improved and now Maxwell likes to slowly go up and down the path in our garden on it. Everytime I see Maxwell use the YBIKE I see some sort of improvement.

The bike has some brilliant features. I love the fact that the bike is light weight, if we want to take it to the local park we can. It is not heavy so is easy enough to carry back to our house if Maxwell gets fed up of playing on it. The bike is also small enough to transport in the car so has been taken over to A.Rachels for Maxwell to play on. The bike is also made of plastic which makes it easy to clean which I feel is important when children are outside. You never know what they may pick up on there hands.

The YBIKE is recommended for children aged 2-4 however I am hoping Maxwell will get a little more use out of it after he is 4 as it really is a clever product. Something which astonishes me with this product is the fact that it comes with a 2 year warranty. This just shows me that the bike is built to last and that the makers are extremely confident that nothing will go wrong with it.

Priced at just £49.99 I think this bike would be a huge hit for your little one this summer. If you were unimpressed with the orange bike we were sent, you will be pleased to learn that the bike also comes in green, blue and pink. If you would like to purchase an original YBIKE please click here.

I did not receive any financial reward for writing this review.
However we did receive the product for review purposes. Everything written in this post is my own honest opinion.

Why Is My Child Unimportant When It Comes To Free Childcare?

Before you go on to read this post, I just wanted to take the time to explain that this post is no way aimed at anyone and that in no way I mean to hurt any of my readers feelings. I full well know that everyone in this day and age all live in different circumstances and that no ones circumstances are really the same however I felt I needed to take the time to write this and explain my frustration that I feel so many parents are feeling.

For a while now I have been wanting to put Maxwell into nursery, not because I am a lazy parent and I don't want to spend time with him, or the fact that I can't cope with him. Its more the fact that I feel that he needs to spend time with children of his own age and interact with others without me there 24/7. Other reasons I am wanting Maxwell to go to nursery include I hope it may bring on his speech a little and he also may learn new things in a different environment, as well as do different activities which I may not be able to do with him or thought to have done with him.

I expect you are now thinking well why havent you put Maxwell into nursery? Well the problem stands that me and Ben have limited funds to pay for Maxwell to go. We are no way poor, we get by. We pay our bills on time, always make sure Maxwell is well dressed and never goes without. There is always food on the table and we always have a warm home but we do not live like kings and we do not have a lot of luxuries in life. We rarely go out, we don't drink and we don't smoke. We do not waste our money and make sure we spread it as far as it will go.

For Maxwell to go to nursery we are looking at around £17 for one morning a week. This is a expense that we can not afford so over recent weeks I have found a cheaper option which would be for Maxwell to go to preschool when he is 2 and half. This works out at around £11 for one morning a week. This is an option which is now looking more feasible for us. We have found 2 preschools in our local area and we are hoping to perhaps look around them next week.

The point of me writing this post however is the frustration I feel at the government and how they have allowed certain 2 year olds to get free childcare and others not. To fall into the category of getting free childcare at the age of 2 you have to qualify. To qualify in my local area you have to be on certain benefits which include being on jobseekers allowance and income support, as a working family me and Ben are on neither. My question is why do the government and even the local authorities think its okay to pick and choose who is entitled to free childcare and why do they think that someone who is unemployed is more needy to free childcare when working parents aren't? I can not quite get my mind around the whole situation and I simply think it is wrong. How can these people determine that because we work we are any better off than someone who receives benefits? In my mind they can't. Surely working parents should be getting the help as well?

A 2 year old who is entitled to free childcare is entitled to 15 free hours a week... Their parents do not have to pay a penny however if I want to send my child to nursery or a preschool I am expected to find around £60 for these hours which in the end adds up to around £240 a month which is over £2000 a year. Quite frankly I find it sickening and hugely unfair. I know for a fact we do not have this money just laying around and for now there is no way we can send Maxwell to nursery or even preschool for 15 hours a week, we are looking at just the 3 hours instead.

In the next few years I really do hope the government and even the local authorities can pull their fingers out and help those working parents who are struggling. Nothing will help me and my family and our situation however I think the government need to take a step back and evaluate how certain things are looked at. I think we now are in the day and age where people should be encouraged to work however these days it seems those working are getting penalised.

Max Rates..... May 2014 Holiday Edition

In a few weeks we are going on holiday so this months Max Rates is based on what Max will be wearing on holiday. I have taken lots of different clothes from different places, this hopefully shows my readers you can buy bits and pieces for children on a budget.

Mothercare First Walker Crab Jelly Shoe
I bought these for Maxwell as I thought not only would they be good for Maxwell around the pool or to play in but also they would be great in the garden this summer for Maxwell when he is getting in and out of his paddling pool and playing in the garden.

Denim Chinos
Chinos tend to be a little less thicker than jeans. Max doesn't really like wearing shorts so whilst the weather isn't sweltering hot, I thought these would be perfect.

Swimming Towel Poncho
I thought this poncho would be perfect for Maxwell whilst he is away. He is able to take it to the beach or the pool and even use it when he is getting a bath. I love the colour and the price is fab.

Dino Swim Wear Set
This swimwear set is perfect for Maxwell to use on holiday. Whilst playing on the beach it will protect and cover him from the sun but whilst in the swimming pool it will keep him a little warmer than just wearing swim shorts. I love the cute dino picture.

Ahoy Pjs
These colourful PJs look perfect for our holiday. If it is a little cooler at night I will know Maxwell is warm in them however if it is a little hotter at night I can easily pull Maxwells trouser legs and sleeves up.

Stripe T-Shirt
This little T-shirt is a bargain at just £4. It is suitable for day to day use and is colourful and fun. It would look great with a pair of jeans/chinos and a nice jumper when it is cool at night.

Zip Through Sweater
The sweater is lovely. Featuring a hood and a bright little logo, this would be the perfect touch to Maxwell's outfits. It would keep him warm in the cooler weather and he would look very smart in it. Priced at £35 it seems to be a little luxury however I always find hoodies/jumpers last Maxwell a while so I would be happy to pay a higher price for it.

#MorrisonsMums Bank Holiday

Last week I received an exciting letter in the post. In the envelope were £80 worth of Morrison vouchers and a letter asking me if I would like to be a #morrisonsmum for the bank holiday weekend. I was asked to go along to Morrisons and write about my experience. I was also asked to share a recipe idea on my blog. I was really excited and settled down to get planning meals for the weekend, I then went on to write a detailed shopping list. My shopping list consisted of some goodies I knew which we would like over the weekend however also some goodies for Maxwell as I planned to make him a special rainbow picnic.

On Saturday Ben and I drove to our local Morrisons store which is only 10 minutes away. We were able to park in a child bay once we got there which was fantastic as we had Maxwell with us. The car park was big enough to get a large amount of cars in and there were quite a few child bays and disabled bays for people that needed to use them. The trolleys were easy to access, they were just a short walk away from where we had parked.

Once we got into the store we were greeted by lots of wonderful yellow signs. Curious, as I had never seen them before I wanted to learn more. It turned out that Morrison had slashed many of their prices and they wanted their customers to know that they were cheaper than other supermarkets. I thought the bright yellow signs were a wonderful idea to promote that they were cheaper than their competitors and it made me want to buy the cheaper options when I was browsing for items I wanted to buy.

We managed to spend just over £80 on our shop and we managed to buy a lot of fruit and salad - something which Maxwell adores. We also managed to get some meat and a amazing pasta dish which was under £3 which fed all 3 of us, as well as a bag of curry which was priced at just £5 which Ben and I ate as a treat on the Sunday evening instead of getting our usual takeaway. I was pleasantly surprised at some of the prices and managed to pick up strawberries and raspberries for £1 each and even a lettuce and cucumber for 49p each which is a bargain in my eyes.

Whilst in Morrisons we did pick Maxwell a few little goodies up. We picked Maxwell up a golf set and a ball. The golf set was priced at £4 and the ball was priced at £2. We also managed to pick up some weed killer for our front garden which was £5. Whilst browsing I also spotted some clothing for Maxwell. I didn't buy him any clothing on the Saturday when we visited but I plan to buy him a few bits and bobs in a few weeks just before we go away on holiday. Morrisons offer a wide range of goods which shows that Morrison have a lot to offer under one roof.

Once we got home I set about planning Maxwell and I's picnic. Unfortunately Ben was working so he was unable to enjoy our picnic however Maxwell and I had a great time. We enjoyed rainbow jelly, Marshmallow gummy bears, Rainbow wraps and even fruit skewers. The food tasted delicious.  I wanted to share with you how we made our rainbow wraps.

Summertime Rainbow Wrap Recipe

You will need:
Small tortilla wrap
Red Pepper
Meat - We choose chicken
Cheese
Cucumber
Red onion
Mayo

  1. Cut your pepper, meat, cheese, cucumber into small chunks. Bare in mind that you would like them to go into a arch shape so think about this when you are cutting them. Once cut slice you red onion into a ring. Cut the ring in half and remove some of the centre so you are left with a arch.
  2. Once you have cut your ingredients start assembling the rainbow. It is up to you in what order you do this however make sure the rainbow is at the bottom. I put the red pepper at the top, then the chicken, the cheese, cucumber and the onion.
  3. Once the rainbow is assembled use the mayo to make a cloud effect at the bottom of the rainbow. This will make it look neat and tidy and bring the ingredients all together.
This recipe is simple to make but healthy to eat. Maxwell adored his rainbow wrap and it is something which I will continue to make him. It is perfect for summer.

I received vouchers for the purpose of this review .
However everything written in this post is my own honest opinion.

A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

  1. Maxwell can now put on his welly boots.
  2. Maxwell has started to get his summer wardrobe ready.
  3. Maxwell has had a lot of visitors.
  4. Maxwell loves to go and see the trains.
  5. Maxwell and I are doing a makeover in our garden.
This week Maxwell has learnt to put his welly boots on. Maxwell's welly boots are placed near our conservatory door and Maxwell knows he must wear them if he is wanting to go outside in the garden. Normally I have to help Maxwell to get them on and off but this week Maxwell has surprised me by running in to the lounge with them on and demanded to go outside in them. He now just has to master his shoes!

This weekend we have been busy shopping. In a few weeks time we are going away on holiday to Wales which means Maxwell is in need of a few new clothes as he has grown out of most of the things which he had last year. Luckily I have been picking bits up when I have seen them cheap however Maxwell is still in need of a few things. This weekend Maxwell was treated to some new shorts, sunglasses, trousers, jelly shoes and a new hat to protect him from the sun. Maxwell adores his new sunglasses and keeps wearing them around the house.

Maxwell had a lot of visitors last week. We had visits from Nanny, Great Grandad and A.Rachel. Maxwell loves spending time with our family so it was really great to see them all.  Nanny bought Maxwell sweets and Maxwell adored them, mainly as they were pig shaped and Maxwell has a love for Peppa Pig at the present moment. Maxwell had fun giving Great Grandad HIi5's and he loved playing and seeing A.Rachel.

At the back of our house there is a train line. 2-4 trains run past it every hour and Maxwell loves the trains going past. Since we have lived here I have forgotten that they are even going past as I have got used to the noise however every time one goes past Maxwell screams "train". At the end of our road there is a train bridge and this week I took Maxwell to the train bridge. We waited for the train to fly under the bridge and  Maxwell was very amused and happy he got to see the train. I am planning a journey on a train soon for Maxwell to enjoy.

This weekend we have bought lots of new items for our gardens and managed to clean and tidy them up. They were left in a little bit of a mess from the last tenant who lived here and I found them to be a little unwelcoming to our visitors (especially the front garden). The front garden was in need of a little care so I removed the weeds with some help from my mum and I have now laid some stones which makes the front garden looks very nice and welcoming. The back garden has been mowed, cleaned and the path has been washed and brushed and we are expecting some new furniture and play items for Maxwell to arrive this week. I will update everyone on our garden once everything has arrived.

Garden Safety This Bank Holiday Weekend

Now we have a garden for Maxwell, I have turned my thoughts in to garden safety. Gardens are areas for adventure and exploration; they fascinate toddlers however sometimes accidents can happen and I have to say they are the main worry for me as a parent. Here are a few of my top tips to keep your little one safe this bank holiday weekend.

Remember children are naturally inquisitive so never leave your toddler unattended in the garden.

Ensure all fencing is secure, any gates are locked and your toddler cannot reach the lock or open it. Our fencing and gate is 6 feet high so Maxwell is not able to climb over it. Toddlers do like to climb so ensure any objects which they could climb on are away from a low fence or gate.

Toddlers love water and sadly every year you read that a toddler has drowned in ponds. Always ensure ponds and any water feature is fenced off or covered. Do not leave your toddler unattended with a bucket of water as this is also very hazardous.

Toddlers love playing with sand. Always ensure your garden sand pit is covered as dogs and cats love using them as a toilet.

Some plants are poisonous so if you are uncertain teach your child not to pick flowers or plant parts. Plants with thorns are spikes can cause pain and injury.

Ensure all dangerous garden chemicals, tools and equipment are locked away. Also keep toddlers away from washing lines as they have the potential of strangulation.

Never leave your hot barbecue unattended as children are fascinated with them. Remember coals can stay hot for several hours.

All garden play equipment should conform to safety standards. Check all play equipment is secure and there are no loose screws etc.

The sun can harm your toddler's skin so always protect it with adequate clothing, a hat and sun cream. Remember when it is slightly cloudy long periods can also be harmful.

Be sure to wash your toddler's hands after playing in the garden or before they eat or drink.
