5 For Under £5

This week my 5 for under £5 is based on all things to do with camping. With the nice weather just around the corner, it will not be long before families are going camping and having fun this summer.

Stainless Steel Cutlery Set - £3.75 with free delivery
When I go camping I am always looking for cutlery sets. This little set fits neatly together and is stainless steel which means it should last a while. There is nothing worse than having to eat with plastic cutlery. This is a must have when camping.

Portable Extra-large Head Windproof Waterproof Matches - £1.34 with free delivery
Matches are always handy to have when you are camping, weather you need them to light a stove or to light a fire they are always handy to keep in a emergency. These matches are fab as they are windproof and waterproof.

HEADLIGHT LED - £1.99 with free delivery
I always think it is a good idea to have plenty of light when camping as it can often get quite dark and accidents can happen. At just £1.99 this is a must have for any camper.

Not only is this a great piece of kit to have when camping, it is also fantastic to have at home. I have recently used mine when Maxwell fell over outside and cut his leg open and I think this little kit is fantastic! I have recently purchased another for my handbag. You never know when you may need this little kit.

Cool Bag - £4.99 with free delivery
When camping, I often like to keep my food cool so this bag would be fantastic to keep meats, beer or even simple things like cheese cool whilst you cook. At £4.99 I think this bag is reasonably priced.

A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

I have not written one of these posts for quite a while. Maxwell has been up to a lot of things since I last write one of these posts. Maxwell had a lovely Easter and is starting to enjoy the beautiful hot weather we are getting at the present moment.
  1. Maxwell had a lovely Easter and got up to lots of things
  2. Maxwell has a new playroom
  3. Maxwell's speech is slowly improving
  4. Maxwell has become obsessed with Happyland toys
  5. Maxwell has been enjoying the beautiful weather
Over Easter  I blogged less and spent more time with Maxwell. Maxwell managed to spend a lot of time with our family and visited places such as the sea front, the farm, the arcades and he even got to go and see Octonauts at the theatre which he adored. For anyone thinking about taking their children to go and see the Octonauts at the theatre, I can reccomend going to watch. The show was bright colourful, fun and Maxwell obsessed over the penguin! I would love to take Maxwell to go and watch it again.

Over the past few months I have been working hard on our home and finally I have managed to create Maxwell a playroom out in our conservatory. So far he loves it out there due to the fact he has a huge sofa to lounge on whilst playing with his toys. I am looking forward to using the room in the summer as it will be warm out there and Maxwell will be able to move from the conservatory to the garden easily and play with all his toys.

Maxwell's speech is slowly improving however he is often getting frustrated that he is unable to speak in sentences and he is only able to communicate with single words. At the present moment Maxwell is seeing his speech therapist on a regular basis and the help that Maxwell has in place is very useful in helping Maxwell develop.

Maxwell has grown a new obsession and that is Happyland Toys. Happyland toys are so expensive so I spent a week searching the internet looking for second hand ones however I found that they were also expensive so recently Maxwell, Ben and  I have been visiting car boot sales and picking up bits and pieces. Although we do not have lots of proper sets, Maxwell adores playing with all the little bits and pieces he has now and is looking to find a farm set and a train set.

The weather has been beautiful and it has meant that Maxwell has been able to get out in the garden and play, go on his bike on bike rides and he has also been able to play at the park. He has adored playing football with his Daddy and we have enjoyed visiting 4 of our local parks in the last week. I hope the weather continues to stay nice so Maxwell can play in his paddling pool soon!

Dry Like Me Potty Training Pack Competition

Dry Like Me, the award-winning potty training pads worn in children’s own pants, have just filmed their first ever TV advertisement – and it is hilarious. The ad features a class of toddlers being taught about potty training by an older child and, during the shoot, the toddlers had lots of fun with the Dry Like Me potty training pads, playing with them like they were toys and sticking them all over their bodies.

Co-creator of Dry Like Me, Jude Hough says: “ We know they are a hit with parents as they can help children get out of nappies and into proper pants, but we were surprised at how much the children loved playing with them. Watching the two year olds run around with pads stuck on the heads and faces was hilarious, and their antics were great to include in the advertisement, which is really funny.” The advertisement, called ‘Miss Smarty Pants’, can be viewed on on Disney Junior, Nick JR, Boomerang, Cartoonito and Tiny Pop.

Award-winning Dry Like Me potty training pads were created by mums, Jude and Di , when they couldn’t find anything that helped to move their potty training children away from nappies and into their own pants. They commissioned independent research, which showed the pads reduced accidents after only one week, and Dry Like Me are now sold by most supermarkets and online at amazon and www.drylikeme.com. One size fits all ages of children, and there are three types to choose from: ‘Early Days’ for the start of potty training, ‘Original’ for the middle to end stages and ‘Night-Time’ to help children get dry at night. They cost around £3.49 a box, are designed to be soft and comfortable and are recommended by health professionals.

To celebrate the launch of their first TV campaign, Dry Like Me are giving away 1 pack to help get your little one out of nappies and into proper pants. Each ‘Smart Way to Potty Train’ pack contains four boxes of Dry Like Me pads, a ‘How to Potty Train’ book (written by Jude and Di) and a sticker reward chart, and is worth £24.

We have 1 set of prizes to give away. To have a chance of winning simply enter the rafflecopter below!

Claim Tax Relief If You Wear A Uniform For Work

WARNING - If you are wanting to claim now - as of the 12/04/2015 you are able to back date from the tax year ending 5 April 2012, you must claim before 5 April 2016.

In early January I made it my mission to try and save money. So far I have done pretty well with this mission and slowly but surely I am managing to rake small amounts of cash back. In turn I am managing to save this money and spend it on things that normally we would be unable to afford.

Since Ben and I have been together, I have always known him to wear a uniform to work. This uniform is washed by our household and ironed in our household. After a little thought it got me thinking about how much money we actually spend on washing and drying work items as well as ironing them.

After a little research on the internet I found that we may be entitled to a small amount of money back from HMRC. I found that they do back date payments up to 4 years so I decided to write HMRC a letter.

In the letter I included;

Ben's full name and address
Ben's national insurance number
Ben's tax code
The name and address of Ben's workplace
Ben's job title
What we were claiming for - (laundering his uniform)
That we would like any money claimed to be returned to him via cheque

The letter took me just 10 minutes to write up and print off, it also only cost me the price of a 2nd class stamp to send the letter to HMRC.

After 3 months we finally heard back from HMRC via a letter and we got a cheque through the post with a sum of £10.27. Although this does not sound a lot, it was money which we were without and money which we were entitled to. In my eyes the money is better off in our pockets than HMRC.

I wrote this post to encourage others to see what they are entitled to. Others may be entitled to more, I have heard stories where people have had over £100 sent through the post so for the price of a stamp it is something which I would encourage others to do.

Have you claimed Tax Relief? Was your claim a success?

Please note - This post was written based on my own experience's. I believe all information is correct at the time of writing and publishing this post.

5 for under £5

Now we are in spring, I have been busy doing up our home. I have added canvas's to our walls, painted different parts of our home, made the garden look a lot cleaner and I have done other jobs such as sand down Maxwell's toy box. There is of course still a lot of things to do so this week I took a look at DIY items which cost less than £5. I was surprised at all the bargains I managed to find.

Buckets are always handy items in our household. We use them washing the car, washing the floors, doing gardening and even when cleaning the house. We own a lot of buckets that have different uses. I thought this bucket was a bargain. It is from a good quality brand and I love the fact it has a metal handle which makes it easy to move around the house.

This is a brilliant item which is perfect to keep on the top of your tool box or even in your pocket. With 13 different uses, it is useful for many jobs. Having it near by could potentially save you time looking for different tools.

I always find these type of screwdrivers are super to use when I am putting flat pack furniture together. With 14 pieces in this set, £3.99 is a good little bargain which will come in handy.

I thought this was a great bargain! I am always looking for boxes to store my DIY items. This box is small but big enough to fit all your DIY belongings in. I keep mine in a easy to reach place in the shed. It has 2 layers and once my first one is full, I shall be purchasing another.

I always have 2 screwdriver sets in my tool box as I often find that if one is missing I have a back up or when setting up flat pack furniture, 2 of us can be putting the furniture together rather than one as we both have the necessary tools to do the job.

*Please note that these items do not offer free delivery when buying them unlike other items that I share. When you spend £10 on Amazon on selected items you will get free delivery. All these items are included in the selected items to get free delivery when you spend £10 or more.

Easter On A Budget

This Easter has been based on a budget in our household. Ben and I have not bought Easter Eggs for one another and we have not purchased anything for other family members. Easter has been based on Maxwell and with that in mind we had a budget of £5 to keep him happy.

I think people often forget the true meaning of Easter and I do think people go overboard when it comes to buying Easter eggs and other items. Easter to me, means spending time with my family. It mean's seeing Maxwell's face light up and this would happen if we spent £1 or £25 on him.

This Easter Maxwell will be getting a Easter hunt. He will also have a visit from Mr Bunny who has left him instructions on how to complete his Easter Hunt. Mr Bunny was created by me. I already had materials to make Mr Bunny so he cost me 0 pence. He took me around just a hour to make.

.
Mr Bunny is simply made out of paper plates, cotton wall, paper and pipe cleaners.  I also used a lot of glue. I think Mr Bunny is a simple idea but one which Maxwell will love come morning. I have made a perfect little rhyme up to accompany Mr Bunny and I am hoping it will encourage Maxwell to behave this Easter holiday.

Maxwell's Easter hunt is made up from reduced items or items which I managed to blag for free. Maxwell's Easter Egg hunt consists of 2 small chocolate Nestle Easter Eggs which  I got for 50p with coupons, I managed to get 2 packs of mini kinder eggs which were free with coupons, I also got a big bag of Haribo which is made up of multi packs - I purchased this from the £1 store. Along with this I also managed to pick Maxwell up some Mr tumble books which were reduced to just £1.25, he also has a Easter colouring book which was reduced to 30p, a pack of crayons which were free from a competition win and a craft box which I managed to pick up again for £1.25. Finally we purchased Maxwell a felt basket form the £1 store so he is able to collect his Easter gifts with ease, this is a item which we will use again in the future.

I know Maxwell will be more than happy with the items we got him this Easter and I am extremely excited to watch him go on his hunt tomorrow. I am also extremely proud that we did not spend a lot of money on him. The money which we saved will go towards Swimming lessons for him.

Easter does not have to be a expensive event! Memories last longer than material objects.

Win A Ladybird Tower

Having moved recently we adore watching wildlife in our garden. As a child the garden was a place where I would learn lots of new things but I always took what I had seen and learnt for granted. When we finally moved out of our small flat and into a house with our own garden I was excited to show Maxwell all things wildlife.

Recently Maxwell has enjoyed watching the wildlife in our garden. We live in the New Forest and often find that all sorts of wildlife are attracted. Over the past few weeks Maxwell has loved watching birds come to our garden and feed, he has also adored watching them play. He has started to enjoy seeing spiders crawling around in his playhouse and has loved watching ants follow each other on our paving slabs.

Today we are giving you the chance to win a beautiful wooden Ladybird Tower which will enable you to see ladybirds visit your garden courtesy of the fab people over at Dobies of Devon.
