Moving Day

Today is our moving day. I have been counting down to this day for months. The worry, the stress, plans, ideas and even money and love have gone into this move and I am hoping it really will go perfectly for us. For the next few days I wont be around much but I have scheduled a few posts which I will hope you enjoy.

What we are looking forward to:

Having stairs- For the last 2 years I have longed to run up and down stairs. I have longed to have that little bit of space separating Ben and I whilst he is sleeping in the day and whilst me and Maxwell want to play in the day. I want the opportunity to say to Maxwell "Stop climbing the stairs" - although this will really never happen as we have invested in 2 stair gates.
Having a garden- Most people take it for granted that they have a garden. I did until we did not have one. One of the most amazing things this summer is that Maxwell will have a garden. He will be able to play with his toys, we will be able to have BBQ's, we will be able to socialise with friends and we have a shed to keep clutter in.
Having our own driveway- For the last 2 years now we have had to carry a baby and toddler through the rain to our car.  We have had to walk down icy wet steps, we have had to stand hail, rain, wind and at times even thunder to walk to our car. This house is going to provide us with joy that there is a driveway and when it does rain, there is only center-meters to walk to that nice white door which will lead you to a nice dry house.
The Area- The area we are moving to is a better location than what we live in now. I can walk to catch a train to go shopping, I can walk and get a bus, I can walk to the local supermarket and most importantly I can walk to see my Grandad. I adore the area and although we are not so close so forest (It being at the end of the road) we are still extremely close to it and I am still looking forward to our wonderful forest car journeys.

Plans and changes in life:

Going out more- I am looking forward to going out more. This may mean walking to the local shops, visiting the local swimming pool or even going to more toddler themed groups with Max, I think the area will let me access all this and if not more. There is also the issue that I want to get skinny before August next year, so who knows... Maybe I will even take up a new sport.
Doing more activities with Maxwell- Whether these activities be cooking, crafting or playing out in the garden, I am really looking forward to it. I think this house will give us a little more room for Maxwell to burn his energy off everyday so there is more time for funner activities.

Not looking forward to:

Gardening- The garden is not the hugest garden you will ever see but it is big enough for Maxwell to have a lot of fun. The garden is pretty basic however I will still need to tidy the lawn, keep plants in shape and even maintain fences, trees and walkways.

Life Lately

I have not done a update recently on my blog of what we as a family have been up to, although I have written about what Max has been up to there are many new things in our life which are going on.

In just 2 weeks we shall be moving into our new home. We are not moving far, only 20 mins up the road however it will be a change. I don't really know the area which we are moving to so it will be fun for me and Maxwell to explore the local area. We will also be moving close to my Grandad which is wonderful. Recently I have been seeing him once a week however I am hoping to visit him more once we move. For the last 2 years we have only lived in a maisonette. Our first maisonette did not have a garden and this maisonette's garden is unusable so it is going to be brilliant moving into a house where Maxwell is able to play.

With moving, there comes clearing junk. Fortunately for us we only moved 6 months ago so a lot of our stuff has been sorted already. The overwhelming thing I have found however is all the new things I have come across since packing. Most things are competition wins however there are things which I have bought and forgotten about, just yesterday I found a huge box of toiletries and I then went on to find a ton of new swimming stuff for Maxwell which is perfect as the local swimming pool is only 30 mins walk from our new house.

A few weeks back I blogged about a weird rash I kept getting and how I had been quite poorly. At the present moment the rash is much better and I have been quite well in myself. I am hoping once we move I will be very much back on the mend and I will stop feeling less tired and stressed.

People have been asking me about my Silent Sunday photos and where I have been capturing them. As the weather has been a lot better in recent weeks, at the weekend Ben has been taking us for drives in the New Forest and down to Calshot Beach and Lepe Beach. All these places are on our doorstep. Over the past few weeks, Ii have realised what a beautiful area we actually live in and how blessed we are to live here.

Finally the most exciting news I have for you is that I will be a bridesmaid at my sisters wedding next August. I am really excited as not have I only never been to a wedding but I am looking forward to being part of my sisters wedding day. Being asked to be bridesmaid for my sister has also spurred me on to loose some weight... I am looking at either joining the gym once we move or buying a treadmill for the conservatory.

A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

  1. Maxwell enjoyed spending time with Nanny And Grandad
  2. Maxwell has been busy winning
  3. Maxwell is excited to be moving
  4. Maxwell went on a adventure
  5. Maxwell is preparing for Easter
Maxwell spent some time with his Nanny and Grandad this week and was excited to see them. He seems to miss them a lot and even requests to speak to them on the phone so seeing them really excited him. He played games with Grandad and enjoyed a lot of cuddles and kisses of Nanny. Maxwell was also besotted with my Dad's sun glasses and decided to prance around with the sun glasses on.

Last week I told my readers Maxwell had enjoyed celebrating World Book Day as Funny Bones. There were a lot of fantastic competitions around last week, all which gave Maxwell the chance to win books/book bundles so I entered Maxwell into them. Maxwell came out with 3 prizes which he is really happy about. The best prize he won however was on the Made For Mums Facebook page and they sent him 7 lovely books. Maxwell is thrilled and I am a proud Mummy.

This week has seen us prepare for our move which will be happening in around 3 weeks. This week we have been getting Maxwell's bedroom in order which means we have thrown some bits away. We also managed to buy bits for his bedroom. Maxwell's room needs to be packed however Maxwell is now ready for our move. His last job is to pick the colour of his new bedroom.

Maxwell went on a long car journey today to pick daddy's new bike up. We also stopped for lunch and went shopping. Maxwell was extremely well behaved and enjoyed going on the long car journey. Maxwell saw swans, the sea, boats and played on lots of apps on mummy's phone.

Over the last few weeks I have been debating weather or not to do Maxwell a Easter hunt. Fortunately for him I have decided that we will do a mini one this year in our new house in the garden. There are not many hiding spaces in the garden so the Easter hunt will be fairly easy to do. At the end of it I am going to present Maxwell with a few goodies which will not just consist of chocolate.

A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

  1. Maxwell has a new "special" seat
  2. Maxwell has been taking part in new activities
  3. Maxwell loves saying "CYA"
  4. Maxwell loves technology
  5. Maxwell is looking forward to going shopping.
Recently I have barely been comping however I did have a excellent win. I won a lovely booster seat so Maxwell is able to sit at our table. Maxwell adores his new booster seat and has seen him do many different activities which he normally does not do as he is limited to space on his highchair tray.  This week Maxwell has played with playdough, played with his megabloks and made a huge tower and has even done some colouring and shape sorting.

Maxwell has started to say a few more words but his all time favourite word is "CYA". Where ever Maxwell goes you can hear him shout it. If he sees someone wave, whether it be on the TV, in the street or when someone comes to our door he has to shout it back 100 times and wave furiously. It is so incredibly sweet.

This may turn a few heads but Maxwell is a huge fan of his Technology. It all started when Maxwell got a Innotab for Christmas. Since then Maxwell loves to sit and play games, takes photos of himself and loves to paint on it. Maxwell also knows how to work a TV and enjoys turning over channels and another hobby he has is playing with my phone. His skills on this includes ringing people, scrolling through photos as well as playing games and looking at photo's on Instagram.

As I may have mentioned in a few posts, we are looking to move again and when moving comes, I always find shopping is involved. At the present moment we are on the lookout at buying Maxwell a new stair gate, a new toddler bed and any more Disney car merchandise we can find for him although his room is kitted out in Disney Car stuff.  I am also keen to find him some garden toys before summer hits in.

Bargain Hunting #25

As many of our readers know, we have just moved into our new home. Throughout the process of moving I have been trying to save money. We have had freebies, discounts, a few bargains and have managed to save ourselves a lot of money.

Freebies
We managed to get a few freebies whilst moving which has really helped us with our spending. Before moving o2 rewards had a fantastic deal on where you were able to get £20 worth of freebies from a storage company. Me and Ben are both on o2 and managed to get £20 worth each. We had 4 rolls of tape and lots of boxes, which of course helped us with costs. As a member of the local freecycle groups I also kept a eye on what was coming up for free, although I did not get any freebies as we had a lot of bits already, for first time people starting off a home freecycle is brilliant.

Discounts
For our new home I wanted some new furnishings. I shopped around and found discount codes which enabled me to get items cheaper than they would be if I had not shopped online. I managed to get £5 off a beeding set and we managed to get £20 off our new fridge.

Use Cashback Sites
When buying things online for your home use cashback sites. You can earn a percentage of the final costs back and although sometimes the cashback can be small, it eventually all adds up which in turn means you can use it for other things which you will need.

Phone and Internet
Before moving see if your current internet and home phone provider will let you switch your lines to your new home. We were able to switch and we were not charged, we were just asked to sign up for a new 12 month agreement, as we had just renewed with our provider they simply added a few extra months on to the contract which saved us over £65 instead of paying the moving fee.

Contents Insurance
Sometimes things go wrong in your new home and contents insurance can be a life-saver.  Contents insurance covers you for the items in your property. You may have a laptop, camera, mobile phone or other items which are of importance to you. Make sure you find cover which is suitable for the items you own. Remember to check comparison sites to make sure you find the cheapest deal.

Food
When moving you will need to run down your freezer and if you are moving a long way away you will need to use your fresh products. For the last 2 weeks at our old home we did not go food shopping instead everyday on the way home from work Ben would buy us food for the meal we needed. We would make use of the stuff we had in the freezer and the money we saved from not doing weekly food shops we put the money away for the big food shop once we had moved in.

A Week Of Learning And New Experiences

  1. Maxwell has learnt his first words
  2. Maxwell enjoyed going to a party
  3. Maxwell has been spoilt
  4. Maxwell is excited to be moving
  5. Maxwell is eating a wider range of foods
Yesterday  Maxwell started to say his first words. I have been a little worried that Maxwell manages to speak all day in baby talk yet has not grasped the fact of learning new words and not being able to communicate with me. Yesterday was such a proud day.  I was shocked that when I said "o no" to Maxwell he managed to say it back. I can not wait for him to learn more words and communicate with me more.

Maxwell went to Grandads birthday this weekend. We ate lots of food and Maxwell enjoyed running around and burning off lots of energy as well as eating lots of peas and chocolate birthday cake (not together). We had a great day and it was lovely to see my parents as we have not seen them for a while.

Maxwell has been extremely spoilt over the last week. From bedroom stuff, to new toys and clothes Maxwell has been bought a lot. One of the biggest things we have spent money on is getting Maxwell new things for his new bedroom. I have bought, bedding, curtains, accessories and even a new book shelf which is of course all Disney Cars. I can not wait to move and see the outcome of all mine and Ben's hard work.

Maxwell is excited to be moving. He has helped us pack lots of stuff away as well as help choose things in shops to buy for our new house. We are both excited for summer to come round so we can spend time in our garden, have fun and create lots of memories.

I have recently talked about Maxwell not eating many foods however this week we have had a lot of progress with Maxwell's eating. Maxwell has become confident eating puddings such as yoghurt and mousse by himself. Maxwell does struggle to scrape the bottom of the pot however it is fabulous to see how quickly he is developing.

Bargain Hunting #22

We are getting on well with our packing for our move and we move to our new house next month It has been stressful and tiring work however the whole way through I have found ways to save money which has helped us be able to buy some nice things when we move into our new place.

Declutter
When you are moving house you have the opportunity to see everything that has been placed in your house. Whilst I packed I sorted through stuff I needed and didn't need. I had 1 rubbish pile, 1 keep pile and 1 charity pile. Rubbish went into the bin, keep stuff was carefully boxed up and I ensured it was clean before packing and charity was put in a bag or taken to the charity shop. I also managed to sell a few things I found along the way which helped us pay for new things we needed for our new home.

Compare removal hires/van hire
When we looked at moving our belongings we found for us it would be cheaper to hire a van simply because we were only moving up the road. I checked all the websites and compared the price before I decided what company to use. I also looked for discount codes to use to help save a little bit more money.

Packing
Instead of buying expensive boxes for places such as storage companies to move why not visit your local supermarket and see what boxes they can give you? I found the best time of day to do this was the evening as they were restocking the shelves. The boxes are free and all you need is some packaging tape. For 5 small moving boxes we found they where £10 a pack. We have used over 20 boxes and we have not finished packing yet so we have saved a fortune by asking for boxes at the supermarket.

Do your own cleaning
We are leaving the house in a clean and tidy condition ready for the next people to move in. I cleaned as I went which not only saved me time but also money as I cleaned the whole place myself and I do not have to get any one to do it. If you can try and hire a machine to clean things such as carpets and clean them yourselves, hiring a machine will be half the price of getting someone in to clean the carpets for you.
