A Letter To My 3 Year Old Son On His Birthday

I can not believe it is 3 years since you were born. In those 3 years you have blossomed into a loving, happy, cheerful human being. You have made me the proudest parent in the whole entire world.

Over the last 3 years I have gone from not knowing how to look after a baby but because of you I now know how to look after a baby, toddler and eventually a child and a stroppy teenager - for giving me these life skills I have to thank you.

You have made me the person I am today, not a 19 year old girl without a care in the world, you have given me focus, happiness and plenty of joy in the last 3 years and you have molded me into the person and mother I am today.

You make me smile every single day with your fun and easy going personality. You are barely a pain in the bottom and you are always thankful for everything you receive. Your eyes light up at the simplest things you are given and you are always happy with either the smallest or biggest things in life.

This year you have done so many things and one day I hope you look back on this blog and see all the fun things we did together. From having 30 days of fun in the summer with one another, going for simple walks in the park, cooking and baking at home, making silly crafts and dancing wildly round the front room - you and I share those memories.. memories that no one else has but us.

This year you have blossomed into a clever, handsome, independent young man. You adore going to preschool and you love to explore outside. You are happy to play alone or with others and you have started inventing imaginary things in your head. You are happy to share and you love people, in my eyes this is a life skill which you are blessed with.

This year you have been faced with hurdles but these hurdles are the hurdles you continue to try and jump over and over again however if you fall, you pick yourself up and try again. I am so proud that you never give up and you always put so much effort into the things you try.

It feels odd to know that in 2 years time, you will be at school and no doubt I will be in a full time job. I feel blessed that we spend so much time together now in your early years and we are as close as we are. I hope this never changes. As you grow I want to be the person you talk to when life gets you down or when you have joyful moments in your life that you want to share.

You hold your own future in life, I along with the rest of your family can help guide you but ultimately it is down to you to be successful in life. If you are reading this in 15 years time, all I ever wish for you is happiness, success and for you to know that money doesn't make you happy. Be what you want to be and do what you wish to but always try your best.

You will always have me in your life no matter where in the world we may be.

  1. My daughter and your son will probably be starting school at the same time then. My daughter turned 3 in September and will start school in 2016, she'll be one, if not the eldest in her year. Being a Mum is hard work but so rewarding... Happy Birthday to your son x

  4. I love what you have written. I have always said there are no words sufficient to say what I think and feel about my children, but you have found them and it's beautiful.
